BIOSTATISTICIAN

The Subbarao lab studies how early-life exposures and experiences shape lifelong health. Our current research is focused disentangling the heterogeneity of asthma by using sophisticated statistical approaches that longitudinally characterize asthma phenotypes and endotypes in the CHILD cohort study and other clinical asthma datasets.
Our team is transdisciplinary, combining expertise in physiology, statistics, epidemiology, nutrition and maternal-child health. We collaborate and use clinical cohorts and administrative databases. We also work closely with health care professionals and patients. We have a diverse group of trainees from undergraduate students, clinical trainees and graduate students to post-doctoral fellows.
We are looking for a candidate that has recently completed their MSc in Biostatistics with experience in analyses of observational data. An ideal candidate is someone self-driven and curious about data, with excellent problem-solving and time management skills, and who enjoys teaching others about biostatistics. The candidate should be able to learn independently and share the acquired knowledge with our trainees and the team.

REQUIRED BIOSTATISTICIAN SKILLS

  • Proficiency in R and SAS languages.
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team; this includes capacity to teach statistical concepts and assist lab members with R/SAS coding/conceptual questions
  • Ability to interpret statistical output for and with clinicians and trainees
  • Ability to incorporate feedback and adjust methodological approaches in a timely manner
  • Experience with Microsoft office package (Word, PPT, Excel) is required
  • Ability to clearly and effectively present results to an audience and/or team in a regular basis through written and oral communication channels.
  • Knowledge of basic epidemiological concepts is an asset.
  • Experience with advanced visualization creation and editing tools such as Adobe Illustrator, Biorender, ggplot and Inkscape is an asset.
  • Experience in research related to pediatrics, asthma, allergy and/or pulmonary function is an asset.
  • Demonstrated commitment to advancing and aiding in the pursuit of equity, diversity and inclusion objectives.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with the principal investigator and/or research associate to develop detailed statistical analysis plans based on a given research question
  • Provide trainees with input, coding and interpretation of complex statistical methods. This will require the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, some in the capacity of consultancy, and others with an active role in data analysis
  • Cleaning, manipulation, and detailed data exploration and diagnostics through visualization and tabulation of several variables at once.
  • Perform high-quality statistical analysis, including but not limited to generalized regression models, mixed effect models and other approaches for repeated measures data (e.g. GEE), longitudinal trajectory analysis (e.g. GBTM, LCA), and mediation analysis.
  • Generate deliverables for research publication and grants.
  • Actively ensure data integrity and quality through detailed review of trainees coding and analysis prior to publication.
