Description:

JOB SUMMARY

The NHS Blood and Transplant is an integral part of the NHS. Operating a network of centres across England, we collect around 2 million units of blood and tissues a year, converting them into safe and effective blood components, blood and tissue products for use in the treatments of patients.
You will handle a wide range of tasks, including the processing and issuing of blood donations and monitoring of storage equipment. You will have responsibility for ensuring that any incoming blood supplies are properly received and accounted for. In addition 50% of your time will be performing general administration tasks for the department and using Microsoft office applications.
To be considered you’ll need an A level or NVQ level 3 or equivalent, or extensive experience working in a logistics/supply chain environment, or of working within an NHSBT or hospital laboratory. Flexible in your approach and a good team player, you must be able to keep clear, accurate records.

EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE

  • Experience of working in a pharmaceutical, manufacturing or laboratory environment would be an advantage
  • Experience of working with Information Technology such as Microsoft Office
  • Experience of working within a regulated working environment and/or to strict documented procedures would be an advantage

QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING

  • Level 3 qualification e.g. ‘A’ Levels OR National Diploma in a relevant subject area OR extensive experience of working in a manufacturing, logistics or supply chain environment
  • Minimum of GCSE grade C or above including English and Maths or equivalent qualification eg NVQ Level 2, BTEC level 2 would be desirable or willingness to study for a Level 2 qualification, where funding available
  • Willingness to undertake further training and development

Responsibilities:

  • You will be required to perform a range of routine and non routine tasks for issuing to hospitals the blood donations from our donors, with the support of your supervisor and other team members
  • You will be responsible for the support and training to less experienced staff
  • You will be required to undertake precise repetitive manipulation of equipment and blood samples/donations and carry out routine tasks on a regular basis
  • You will be required to handle blood bags and a range of equipment
  • The role will require you to work variable hours and days, weekends and bank holidays as per the roster within the department (unless otherwise rostered within the shift agreement) with appropriate notice
  • You will be required to manually handle equipment on a daily basis weighing up to 13 kgs, with or without mechanical aids, with appropriate training
