Description:

An opportunity has arisen within the Maintenance department at Lynemouth Power Station for a Boiler & Auxiliaries Engineer. The successful candidate will be appointed on a fixed term contract for 12 months.

This is a critical role, supporting and assisting the Maintenance Manager to ensure:

  • The maintenance strategy is employed to continuously improve the performance of the power station.
  • Performance is maximised throughout the plant to proactively assist with the lifecycle of the assets.
  • Opportunities for innovation and new technology are identified, to ensure the plant continues to increase flexibility, efficiency, availability, and reliability.
  • The short to mid-term maintenance strategy is delivered and we continuously improve reliability using the Asset Management Programme.

Key Responsibilities

Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, the key responsibilities and duties in the Boiler & Auxiliary Plant will include:

  • Managing both planned and unplanned overhauls and outages of the unit.
  • Managing and co-ordinating boiler tube leak issues.
  • Management of the pressure parts and general maintenance team.
  • Responsibility for maintenance activity related to rotating equipment for the boiler.
  • Responsibility for all type maintenance work related to the boiler.
  • Optimising maintenance planning and resource scheduling activities using the Computer Maintenance Management System, currently IFS.
  • Assisting with the Asset Integrity Management System (AIMS), including the inspection programme of pressure, non-pressure, and structural assets.
  • Undertaking project work to relating to mechanical plant in the boiler or other areas.
  • Analysing breakdowns to increase plant flexibility, efficiency, availability, and reliability using available maintenance tools.
  • Assisting in optimising contractor usage and reducing contractor costs.
  • Assisting in compliance with and monitoring of process safety requirements.
  • Making decisions and issuing directives for the scope of work.
  • To act as the delegated authority for the mechanical area engineer who areas consist of turbine and rotating plant.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Background

  • Knowledge of boiler plant and auxiliary equipment maintenance (essential)
  • Knowledge of pipework systems, vessels; piping design codes e.g. BS EN 12952 or BS 1113, BS 2791, materials technology for pressure parts; welding; boiler ancillary equipment; materials handling (essential)
  • Knowledge of methods for NDT techniques (essential)
  • Experience and training in carrying out boiler tube repairs (desirable)
  • Previous professional experience working within the power generation sector, or relevant industry background (desirable)
  • Knowledge of assisting with the application of Pressure Systems Safety Regulations (PSSR)
  • Developing and implementing short, mid and long-term mechanical integrity programs.
  • Experience of outage preparation and execution.
  • Experience and knowledge of budget preparation.
  • Understanding of environmental and safety legislation.
  • Knowledge of maintenance strategies and improvement techniques.
  • Principles and practices of process safety requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • HND in Mechanical Engineering (essential)
  • 3 A levels / HNC or equivalent in relevant subject (essential)
  • 5 GCSEs A-C including maths & English (essential)
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering (desirable) or equivalent demonstrable experience
  • IOSH Management Qualification (desirable)
