The Ministry of Municipal Affairs assists municipalities in providing well-managed, collaborative, and accountable local government to Albertans. Our main responsibilities are:
- Funding supports for municipalities
- A system that strives to ensure appropriate safety standards for the construction and maintenance of buildings and equipment
- Protections for new home buyers and required licensing for home builders
- Province-wide support for access to public library services for Albertans
- Management of about 2.6 million acres of public land in the province’s three Special Areas
- Independent review and decisions on local matters by the Land and Property Rights Tribunal
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum recruitment standards outline the minimum education and experience required for appointment to a job classification.

- Related Master’s degree and 6 years related experience or equivalent as described below.
Equivalency: Directly related experience considered on the basis of 1 year of experience for 1 year of education to a minimum of a related Bachelor’s degree.
Special Requirement: Registration with the Canadian Board of Occupational Hygiene or its American equivalent.
- This position requires specialized expertise in the boiler and pressure vessel discipline, to provide technical advise and support to the Boiler and Pressure Vessels Technical sub-Council of the Safety Codes Council.
- There is a requirement for this position to exercise independent decision-making pertaining to program activities. The employee must have strong analytical skills and a good understanding of risk management processes.
- Good human relation skills and communication to influence behavior through the promotion of safe and effective practices to which the Safety Codes Act applies. Support the regulatory review process and associated consultations concerning public safety.
