THE ROLE:

The role is supervised by a Principal Psychologist, Consultant Clinical Neuropsychologist and works closely with the BIL project manager, and Project Support Officer, to ensure the safe and effective delivery of the service. It sits within Brainkind’s Policy & Social Change Team which is committed to making sure brain injury rehabilitation is accessible to all. This post will involve working independently according to an established service delivery model in Southeast with the aim to reduce rates of re-offending and harm to self and others within the recognised population. Undertaking the necessary training and regular supervision are core requirements of this post. The post holder will also be expected to engage in clinically related administration and liaise with staff and partnership organisations both within and outside the identified prison and probation services. The post is ideally suited to an experienced Assistant Psychologist with specialist knowledge of brain injury and experience of working with people with complex needs.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • To work remotely under the supervision and guidance of a remote Consultant Clinical Psychologist, and a project manager.
  • To support and manage a complex and varied caseload of men that screen positive for a brain injury and/or have history and sequalae of an Acquired Brain Injury (ABI),under clinical supervision
  • To administer the Brain Injury Screening Index (BISI) to identify individuals that screen positive for an ABI and complete an assessment of needs to develop an Individual Support Plan (ISP) and planned release (or resettlement plan) for each service user.
  • To ensure each Individual Support Plan is appropriately designed to complement existing Healthcare and Resettlement Team goals
  • To implement and review Individual Support Plans with the service user and under supervision ensuring individual needs and preferences are placed at the centre of the process
  • When agreed and directed under supervision; to undertake assessments including psychometric test and neuropsychological assessments if needed, develop formulations and provide any interventions as agreed within supervision.
  • To develop and deliver Psychosocial interventions on a 1:1 basis, focusing on the sequalae of brain injury.
  • When agreed, to work with existing services such as the Prison Service, Probation, Courts, Community Services, Social and Healthcare Services and Charities to develop effective diversion and liaison for service users.
  • When necessary and appropriate under guidance and remote clinical supervision, to provide advocacy for service users which may include the preparation of reports for criminal justice professionals and agencies.
  • To provide accurate information about ABI and raise awareness amongst service users, prison and community-based professionals.
  • To provide under guidance information about substances, raise awareness about substance [including alcohol] misuse and its effects in relation to ABI; and provide support to enable service users to access services that focus on the reduction or cessation of substance misuse.
