Description:

Breast Care Nurse, Band 6- Thirlestaine Breast Centre (27 hours a week)

The role of the Breast care Nurse is a great opportunity to develop your clinical and professional practice along with leadership and management experiences. Excellent communication skills and self-awareness are required for your own and others well-being. The post holder will be an effective core member of the breast multidisciplinary team (MDT) within Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, acting as an expert practitioner within the breast team. The successful applicant will demonstrate highly developed specialist knowledge in the management of patients with breast diseases and will provide physical and emotional support care. This will include supporting their holistic needs assessments and care plans as they move through their treatments and breast/oncology care pathways, meeting the personalised care agenda. To be able to manage complex patients and their complex needs, ensuring informed decisions about treatments and care pathways are made. Being a highly skilled practitioner and acting as a specialist resource to support the team. The post holder will also contribute to the day to day running within Thirlestaine Breast Centre, support changes to our services within the surgical division and wider developments within Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

  • The post holder will be a member of the Breast Care team who is passionate about the care and support of breast cancer patients. Has experience of caring for breast cancer patients and keen to meet their holistic needs throughout their care and treatment pathways
  • Have excellent communication skills, including experience of dealing with difficult conversations and health promotion
  • Communicate effectively with patients, carers, relatives and all members of the multidisciplinary team, including proficient telephone skills.
  • Experience of or working towards developing services, within clinical areas, to improve patient experience and efficiency.
  • Prioritise own workload to best support our caseload of breast cancer patients and our service demands.
  • To use excellent prioritising and time management skills to meet the unpredictable and conflicting needs of the service and to assist the team in the day to day running of the breast service.
  • To attend, when appropriate, departmental and local breast service meetings to support breast care nursing and our patients and ensure cascading of relevant information.
  • To be budget aware and support efficient service provision and responsible use of consumables and cost spend.
  • Participate in any relevant national and local research and audits.
  • Be actively involved in and support departmental education programmes
