DESCRIPTION

This position serves a key role in Michael Baker Intl’s National Broadband Practice with a range of business responsibilities. The position is responsible for developing, facilitating, and maintaining the Business Development Process of the National Broadband Practice. The position is responsible for strategic plan development, pursuit strategy programming, sales tracking, capture planning, client and industry engagement, proposal development, and marketing and business development tasks to achieve practice goals for new work added and strategic growth.

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Communications, or Business Administration or applicable professional experience
  • Proven experience in strategic planning and marketing strategy
  • Experience developing cost proposals for professional service agreements
  • Experience in proposal development and qualification based competitive selections
  • 3-5 years of experience in broadband consulting business development preferred

  • Proven track record of effective communication, both written and verbal, complemented by strong presentation skills. Ability to engage with internal teams, clients, subconsultants, and vendors.
  • Understanding of broadband technologies including fiber optic, fixed and mobile wireless, cable, satellite and other telecommunications networks.
  • Understanding of broadband policy, federal funding programs, digital equity/opportunity, workforce development.
  • Excellent listening, problem-solving, decision-making, negotiation, and presentation abilities
  • Creative thinker with the capacity to conceptualize innovative solutions.
  • Process-driven approach to work.
  • Demonstrated competence in managing change effectively.
  • Expertise in the Microsoft 360 Suite, including Excel, PowerPoint, Word and Teams.
  • Expertise with Adobe Suite products and InDesign preferred but not required.
  • A professional attitude with a strong passion for contributing to the advancement of America’s information infrastructure, leveraging expertise in wireline and wireless communications technologies.

Responsibilities:

  • Client and Industry Engagement
  • Develops strategy for engagement with State Broadband Offices, local government entities, and other potential clients
  • Identifies and organizes pre-engagement strategy meetings with the National Broadband Practice, Local Office Executives and Project Managers regarding business development opportunities and growth objectives
  • Maintains subconsultant and business partner repository
  • Develops presentations and presentation materials for clients and Project Management pursuits
  • Supports/attends broadband and related industry meetings, events and conferences
  • Generates and develops new business relationships with potential clients and partner
  • Sales Tracking Management
  • Ensures single sales opportunity (SSO) leads are timely and accurately entered into the sales tracking program.
  • Reports and maintains data requirements for each sales opportunity
  • Maintains the accuracy of all sales records for the Practice
  • Assess reports from sales information and tracking systems
  • Coordinates with finance team, Office Executives (OE), Regional Directors (RD), and other practice leads to maintain sales data integrity
  • Capture Management for Priority and Strategic Pursuits
  • Develops living strategy for capturing business – includes maintaining/updating all sections of capture plan with latest intel, strategic development, action items, value propositions/win themes, teaming, client analysis, etc.
  • Use Michael Baker-approved capture plan tools/templates
  • Develops professional services cost proposals for client submissions
  • Coordinates with the National Broadband team to prepare competitive project pricing spreadsheets
  • Sets capture schedule – includes scheduling capture meetings with capture team and leadership at agreed-upon intervals/frequency
  • Co-facilitates capture meetings with capture manager and leadership
  • Proactively coordinates with internal capture and proposal team members
  • Organizes information with great attention to accuracy, detail, and thoroughness
  • Develops, maintains, and uses approved proposal go/no go decision standards
  • Coordinates with Proposal Development team to assign proposal management resources and transfer capture strategy
  • Works with proposal manager to ensure capture strategy is implemented in the proposal land interview presentation
  • Drafts strategic narratives for proposal as needed; engages subject matter experts and/or leadership
  • Engages local leadership for capture planning
  • Coordinates add-on business pursuits with broadband project managers
  • Coordinates activities with activities of government regulatory or other governmental agencies including the National Telecommunications and Information Association and the Federal Communications Commission.
  • Supervise the development of proposals by proposal team, subject matter experts, project managers, and leadership
