The Ridgewood YMCA is seeking a Building Engineer who will provide leadership to the overall management and maintenance of the Ridgewood YMCA building and property, including off-sites. They will maintain all mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems throughout the facility to ensure a safe hazard-free environment. The Building Engineer will ensure that the building has the required operating certificates and that recordkeeping is maintained. They will assist in preparing payroll, purchase orders, invoicing, receiving, and procuring building supplies and materials. They will also be responsible for ensuring compliance with all Federal, State, and City property regulations.
DESIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; college degree preferred.
- Minimum of Three (3) to Five (5) years of related experience is required. Three (3) to Five (5) years of supervision experience is preferred.
- Knowledge of Electrical (NYC Codes), Plumbing (NYC Codes), Fire Protection, Systems (NYC Codes), Building Construction and Management, Energy Conservation, Burner, Boiler, Pools, HVAC, Plumbing, Painting, and Carpentry.

Responsibilities:
- Monitor and oversee daily building operation of heating, electric, and fire safety systems.
- Supervise and assist as needed with all contracted services for cleaning, maintenance, and facility upgrade projects to achieve a high level of productivity with available resources.
- Maintain plant mechanical systems. Ensure that the heating, pools, life safety equipment, plumbing, electrical, ventilation, and HVAC systems are all in good working condition. Maintain a preventive maintenance program and repair, replace, and upgrade systems as needed.
- Maintain records and reports for energy conservation and consumption reports, preventative maintenance records, and fire safety logs. Recommend major building equipment purchases. Maintain an organized, effective system for prompt follow-up on all repairs and maintenance requests.
- Assist in implementing an Energy Conservation Plan to include lighting and control replacements.
- Assist in supervising outside contractors, in-house construction projects, capital improvements, and deferred maintenance projects.
- Assist in developing in-house training on fire safety, pool maintenance, and housekeeping programs.
- Required to implement rules and regulations to ensure the safety of members and staff according to risk management guidelines.
- Assist in designating staff and schedules to meet the operational needs of the branch.
- Respond to emergency situations at the branch as needed and implement the emergency evacuation plan if applicable.
- Prepares and submits payroll, purchases requisitions and invoices, and receives supplies and equipment.
- Maintain positive relationships with members, staff, and vendors. Show members, colleagues, and outside vendors respect by listening carefully and showing empathy when dealing with a difficult situation.
- Willing to obtain required fitness certificates, including Fire Alarm Systems – S95, Sprinkler – S12, and Fire & Emergency Drill Conductor-F-07/W-07 certifications within the first ninety (90) days of hire.
- Actively participate in all training sessions, designated meetings, and special events.
