POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the division Manager, the Building Maintenance Repair Person I will be required to monitor and service various building mechanical equipment and systems; perform general building repairs and maintenance.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- High School Diploma
- Minimum 5 years’ related experience in the control, operation, maintenance and repair of complex building systems and equipment
- BES (Building Environmental Systems) Certified Operator, or an Operating Engineer Class 3 or 4
REQUIRED SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE
- Working knowledge of standard computer software applications (i.e. spreadsheets, databases, etc.)
- Working knowledge of computerized maintenance management systems (i.e. Maximo)
- Working knowledge of pool and arena operations
- Working knowledge of computerized building systems
- Team player with well-developed customer service skills
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
- General knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act
- Familiarity with various regulated operating requirements relating to building systems (i.e. Fire code, TSSA regulations, etc.)
- Able to perform the physical demands of position under adverse weather and site conditions
- Ontario Class “G” Driver’s License in good standing and must provide a satisfactory current Drivers Abstract from the Ministry of Transportation Ontario (MTO)
- Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector security clearance

Responsibilities:
- Monitor, assess, troubleshoot and service various building components, equipment and systems
- Operate Security and Life Safety Systems
- Perform general building repairs and maintenance (i.e. re-lamping, troubleshooting minor electrical work, minor carpentry, concrete repairs, painting, minor drywall repairs, locksmith and basic plumbing)
- Perform general janitorial and cleaning functions
- Perform basic landscaping
- Perform general architectural repairs
- Liaise with contractors/staff
- Respond to and assess emergency calls from clients (public/staff)
- Perform daily record keeping and log book maintenance
- Assess and respond to any City site for emergency calls from clients/staff
- Carry out preventative maintenance tasks as assigned
- Compile and maintain on a daily basis all information and documentation relevant to all completed work (i.e. record keeping, maintenance management systems, log books, update drawings, files, etc.)
- Determine impact of required work, communicate, coordinate and supervise major and minor repair work with other facility staff/contractors/users to minimize service interruptions
- Work from drawings, layouts or other specifications; locate and diagnose trouble in the building systems or equipment and report abnormal conditions
- Ensure that all work is performed in full compliance with all applicable codes/standards/regulations, work instructions, and established safety standards.
- Comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the City of Richmond Hill’s safety standards and policies
- Work rotating standby and potential alternate shifts, in accordance with the provisions contained in the CUPE Collective Agreement
- Other duties as assigned
