Description:
How you’ll make a difference:
You will make a difference by directing and supervising the Building Maintenance Handyvan Team, who supports the council’s aim of helping vulnerable residents to remain in their own home, offering a subsidised minor building maintenance and repair service provided by an in-house workforce.
Managing a team undertaking household repairs and maintenance work for home owners, also maintaining minor repairs for schools and council owned properties, the service offers repairs such as painting and decorating, patios, plumbing, fencing, guttering, replacing doors, kitchen and bathroom adaptations.
What you will be doing:
- Working under the supervision of the electrical and building maintenance manager, you will ensure that work operations are carried out in accordance with specifications and regulations
- You will provide quotes, plan the programme of works and then deliver all building maintenance work safely and efficiently.
- Carrying out Inspections and monitor service standards, you will liaise with colleagues, project teams, contractors and suppliers in the delivery of high quality, customer focused service, building effective working relationships at all levels.
- Allocating staff and resources effectively to meet service requirements, you will ensure works carried out by the HandyVan team to is customer satisfaction.
- It will be your responsibility to manage up 7 trades maintenance operatives, providing clear advice and guidance, absence monitoring, appraisals and training, ensuring all team members receive ongoing support and development.
What we need from you:
- We require you to have, or be working towards, a technical qualification, HNC, NVQ4, or have equivalent relevant experience.
- It is essential for you to have knowledge of relevant legislation, procedures and policies e.g. health and safety.
- Given the elements of this role, you must have the ability to identify problems and provide creative, workable solutions within short timeframes.
- You will have experience of supervising, motivating and developing a team, including allocation of work, performing absence monitoring, conducting training and undertaking recruitment.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
- This is a full time role, working 42 hours per week, including 5 hrs contractual overtime.
- Your shift pattern will be 7.00am – 16.30pm.
