Description:

PAY RATE: $16.50

The Bus Aide/Monitor reports directly to the Program Director and works under general supervision. The incumbent interacts daily with children, parents, staff and the general public. The incumbent is expected to use discretion and to be customer service oriented. The incumbent is further expected to adhere to the rules of traffic safety always placing the welfare of the passengers first; meet performance and behavioral expectations as defined by the supervisor; and to keep the supervisor informed of problems, including but not limited to, schedules, routes, parents’ concerns or failure to adhere to the programs’ transportation guidelines; and vehicle maintenance issues.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This position requires sufficient visual and hearing acuity and clear speech to perform the essential functions of the job as well as a complete range of motion to respond to the needs of the children. Must also have the ability to lift up to 40 lbs. irregularly.

Responsibilities:

  • Assists the bus driver who is transporting participants to and from the center daily per assigned vehicle.
  • Observes the security of passengers at all times, by checking to see that required restraint devices are secured prior to operation of the assigned vehicle.
  • Signals driver that it is safe to move after boarding child/children are safely buckled in.
  • Explains and enforces rules and regulations governing passenger and parent conduct.
  • Keeps emergency information cards current and accurate.
  • Ensures that each child is released to the designated responsible adult at home and at the classroom.
  • Reports absentees, unusual circumstances, child behavior and family problems immediately to the designated and appropriate staff person.
  • Assists the driver with the pre-trip inspection when possible.
  • Is responsible for post-trip vehicle inspection following established guideline and checking the entire bus at the end of EACH run for children and personal property.
  • Assist bus driver in the inspection of the vehicle at the end of the day for any damages to the vehicle both inside and outside of the bus.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
