Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY

The Business Applications Implementation Consultant provides implementation support for new and enhanced business applications to ensure successful client-side acceptance and improved business process realization. The role is responsible for the development of support documentation, on-line self-help resources, and training to assist end users in fully engaging new business processes and the associated software applications. The position works closely with the Business Analysts during the implementation phase of new projects as well as other sections across the department to assist with operational troubleshooting and general support.

EDUCATION, TECHNICAL SKILLS AND CERTIFICATION

  • Understanding of business processes, user interface design, operating systems, software applications, computer hardware and network systems, achieved through a three year College diploma in Information Technology.
  • Advanced technical writing skills required to prepare support materials and reports.
  • Problem solving and critical thinking skills to diagnose problems and determine steps necessary to achieve an effective solution.
  • Ability to communicate effectively to users with varying levels of computer understanding. Ability to translate complicated technical language into laypersonterms for training purposes.
  • Ability to work effectively with constant interruptions; ability to work simultaneously on several projects independently and to use good judgment in determining priorities.

EXPERIENCE

  • Five (5) years progressive experience in an information technology related field including at least three (3) years directly supporting complex end user implementation requirements.
  • Familiarity with adult learning strategies and experience developing and delivering technology-based training programs.
  • Project management experience.

Responsibilities:

  1. Participate in business systems project teams by developing appropriate end user implementation strategies.
  2. Assess the “as is” and “to be” aspects of new or enhanced business systems and implement appropriate change management processes to drive end user acceptance.
  3. Develop and supervise the implementation of training programs that ensure that new business work flows and software application use result in operational efficiencies.
  4. Audit staff technical skill levels and competencies in relation to new business systems and make recommendations to management to address noted deficiencies.
  5. Manage the corporate Learning Management System to ensure effective content authoring and delivery of a broad range of training programs throughout the organization.
  6. Promote and support the use of Project Management methodology and the associated SharePoint application and other technology tools.
  7. Support the use of Business Intelligence (BI) tools particularly in Human Resources and Finance for the analysis of employee assessment, attendance management and financial issues.
  8. Maintain knowledge of MS Office, MS SharePoint, Adobe Connect, and SAP to assist end users with innovative use of these applications.
  9. Create on-line resources to support “just-in-time” learning for existing staff who need a quick refresher on a business process or software application procedure.
  10. Work with application developers to identify user interface problems and make recommendations for improvement.
  11. Conduct end user surveys to assess the level of application use and identify gaps in knowledge.
  12. Keep abreast of new developments in the business applications area including cloud and mobile device opportunities.
  13. Manage contracts with external trainers as required to facilitate program delivery where specialized needs exist.
  14. Prepare knowledge-based documents to support IT staff in ongoing operations.
  15. Comply with provincial and County occupational health and safety legislation, regulations, policies and procedures.
  16. Maintain confidentiality in accordance with the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.
  17. Perform other duties as assigned.
