Description:

WECU is seeking a Business Banking Loan Officer III (Skagit county) join our Business Banking department in Bellingham, WA. This position will serve the Skagit county community and will assist with the daily functions of the Business Banking department. Interview members and underwrite all business banking products with emphasis on larger, more complex transactions and relationships. Responsible for assisting front line staff to provide custom credit union products and services to business members with specific or special needs. Maintains and manages up to and in excess of a $50 million business loan portfolio.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Four-year undergraduate degree with a field of study preference in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting or Economics.
  • Seven or more years of commercial lending experience
  • Ability to analyze complex commercial and consumer tax returns, financial statements, and collateral.
  • PC experience to include Microsoft Windows, with the ability to learn new software.
  • Analytical ability to understand financial and cash flow analysis.
  • Competence with loan documentation requirements and government regulations.
  • Knowledge of the SBA 7A and 504 Loan Programs.
  • Working knowledge of safety and security programs for false alarms, robberies, bomb threats and extortion.
  • Working knowledge of credit union’s in-house computer system and business banking loan processing system.
  • Ability to exercise judgment, initiative, and tact in dealing with members, management, and staff.
  • Ability to represent the credit union in a positive, professional manner in person, on the telephone, and in written correspondence.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical and consultative assistance to member contact areas of the credit union regarding business banking services.
  • Monitor workflow and suggest to management ways to make the process more effective and efficient.
  • Establish and service a sound loan portfolio by cultivating new larger and more complex member business relationships and expanding existing business through an effective calling program. Regularly achieves and/or exceeds agreed upon benchmarks and annual goals.
  • Build solid, profitable relationships with members/prospects.
  • Participate in various community service or social organizations on behalf of the credit union. Leadership positions to be encouraged.
  • Analyze member/prospects needs and recommend appropriate solutions. Effectively establish his/her role as a trusted financial advisor.
  • Negotiate credit terms, costs, repayment methods and collateral specifications within delegated authority.
  • Evaluate potential member loan requests and make recommendations to management and credit administration.
  • Have a thorough knowledge of business lending policies and procedures.
  • Counsels with and assists in the training and development of Business Banking Loan Officers. Undertakes special projects relating to departmental services as assigned by Business Banking Senior Loan Officer/Manager and/or Vice President – Business Banking.
  • Review business services policies and procedures. Recommends changes to management.
  • Assist management in establishing and maintaining written procedures and guidelines for operation of the department using knowledge of the organizational structure, mission, and priorities.
  • Ensure that all business loans are processed and underwritten correctly using knowledge and related procedures. Those items that do not conform should be underwritten and recommended for approval through the appropriate credit committee for the WECU portfolio.
  • Foster and maintain cohesive partnerships and working relationships with all lines of business within the credit union to build trusted and productive sales and service referral process.
  • Knowledge of record-keeping compliance and related procedures.
  • Remain current on changes within the legal, regulatory, economic, competitive, and technology environment that may affect business services lending functions.
  • Comply with government regulations by maintaining an up-to-date knowledge of commercial law, UCC, and credit union regulations/policy to assure conformity with required laws and terms.

Follows policy and procedures related to Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Customer Identification Program (CIP) and Customer Due Diligence (CDD) daily to ensure compliance with current regulations.

  • BSA Specific Requirements: Understand compliance and complete annual training related to the Business Banking Loan Officer position including, but not limited to, The Bank Secrecy Act and the Patriot Act. Understand Bank Secrecy Act forms and procedures for monitoring and reporting suspicious activity. Notify the Compliance Department of any suspicious activities.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned by management.

  • Performs other duties as assigned and may also assist others to complete tasks and work assignments.
