    The role:
    The Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade) is seeking an experienced business development professional with knowledge and networks in agriculture and food sectors, based at the Australian Consulate in Houston, TX.
    This position will execute strategies to broaden and deepen commercial ties between the United States and Australia, with a focus on supporting Australian agrifood exporters to find success in the US.
    Under the leadership of the Agrifood & Consumer Sector Lead, the Business Development Manager will provide services to Australian companies looking to expand to the US, including providing advice on market conditions, market entry strategies, potential partners and customers and government regulations.
    The successful candidate will possess well-established knowledge of, and relationships in Texas and the south-east region of the United States. Most importantly you must have experience in identifying new business opportunities resulting in commercial outcomes, and a demonstrated commitment to high performance. Experience across agrifood sectors, including specialty retail, meat, seafood, wine and beverages is required.
    Spanish-proficiency and knowledge of Hispanic retail, food service and hospitality in the US is highly desired.

Duties include

  • Build and maintain networks with key business contacts, government agencies and other stakeholders in the US.
  • Work closely with businesses to determine their needs and help them develop international growth strategies specific to your market.
  • Be part of a global team of experts to provide strategic advice and drive outcomes for business.
  • Work collaboratively with Austrade colleagues in Australia, States, Territories and partners (professional firms and Industry bodies).
  • Provide commercial and market insights to support the enhancement of Austrade’s digital service channels.
  • Support visits to the US by government ministers and senior officials through the development of briefing documents and programs to raise the profile of Australian business and to foster new business linkages.
  • Clearly communicate Austrade’s services and value proposition to clients and partners.
  • Monitor and assess key business and sectoral trends as well as significant commercial developments in the market and provide written reports or social media blogs, podcasts or videos on potential impact on Australian trade and business interests for external consumption.
