JOB PURPOSE

The Business Development Manager will support the continuing development of the Adam Smith Business School (ASBS) by managing collaborative external relationships and partnerships and develop engagement opportunities for ASBS in line with the School and External Engagement strategies.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Manage and deliver an effective business development operation in order to create a sustained pipeline of opportunities in learning and teaching and research e.g. student consultancy, guest speakers, projects and knowledge exchange events for organisations external to the School.
  2. Manage new and existing external partnerships, qualifying partner requirements and where appropriate, enabling them to access the expertise they need to develop successful academic and student outcomes. This may range from signposting services to brokering introductions, to on-going professional project support.
  3. Provide a professional and effective support service to relevant academic staff in relation to External Engagement. Work collaboratively with academic and professional colleagues to identify and encourage possible external engagement in research and learning and teaching, including activities that promote knowledge exchange and impact, and teaching portfolio development.
  4. Support the development of the ‘engagement offer’ across research expertise and professional development, aligning internal requirements with external needs. Manage and improve systems, frameworks and processes for effective business development across the School.
  5. Working with the team, keep activities on track, monitor performance against plans and ensure progress towards established KPIs, ensuring the implementation of the agreed strategy with respect to the business development pipeline.
  6. Support the international strategy as required, optimizing existing relationships and developing new partnerships (outside the UK).
  7. Support the Schools ambitions in the executive education arena, with a focus on identifying opportunities for growth and income generation.
  8. Maintain and optimise appropriate records, processes and systems to support the external activities of the School and record and steward stakeholder data. Contribute to School wide accreditations (currently AACSB, EQUIS, AMBA).
  9. Proactively monitor national and international sector and policy developments having an influence on University and School strategy. Identify and exploit new opportunities in support of the agreed strategy.
  10. Co-ordinate the activities of the external engagement team with a wider range of colleagues across the College and University. Support the Student Recruitment and External Engagement Manager with responsibility for the School’s external engagement budget to ensure this is managed appropriately.
  11. Line management of the Business Coordinator role.
  12. Deputise for the Student Recruitment and External Engagement Manager as a member of the School Professional Service Leadership Team as required. Undertake other duties/attend meetings as are assigned by senior staff. Participate as a member in committees and groups contributing to strategic direction, policies and practices.
