BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT OFFICER, EXECUTIVE EDUCATION
The Executive Education unit within Edwards School of Business is focused on providing market-relevant non-degree programming for business executives and professionals, offering both customized programs for organizations and public workshops in various business disciplines. This unit fosters and promotes lifelong learning for working professionals and strengthens the connection between the business community and the Edwards School of Business.
Primary Purpose: The Business Development Officer plays a key role in driving revenue growth by securing new clients, fostering corporate relationships, and aligning tailored learning solutions with client needs, while supporting the success of both customized and open enrolment programs.
Nature of Work: Reporting to the Director of Executive Education, the Business Development Officer works closely with the team to support revenue growth by promoting and recruiting participants for professional development programs. The incumbent is a team player with a high level of energy and creativity, an in-depth understanding of the sales cycle, exceptional customer service, and excellent communication skills. The ability to understand detailed program specifics is essential to the role, as is cultivating corporate relationships, identifying new business opportunities, and aligning learning solutions with client needs. Cultivating long-term relationships and building strong partnerships with clients is key. The incumbent drives growth through proactive business development, managing client expectations, and contributing to the success of both customized and open enrolment programs.
This position is subject to competing interests and frequent internal and external deadlines and shifting priorities. The incumbent exercises judgment, decision-making and problem solving to foster a strong professional relationship among internal and external stakeholders.
Flexibility in working hours is necessary as there will be some evening and weekend commitments. Occasional travel is required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
An equivalent combination of education, training and experience, as well as non-traditional career paths, community experience, and recognition of prior learning may be considered.
Education: A bachelor’s degree is required, preferably in business or a related field
EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum three to five years’ relevant experience in business development and/or sales.
- Preference will be given to candidates with previous experience in executive education, learning and development, or continuing education.
SKILLS:
- Excellent and adaptable interpersonal and written communication skills.
- Team oriented with strong interpersonal relationship-building skills and the capacity to build consensus and maintain positive relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, including staff, faculty and clients.
- Demonstrated skill in working independently with minimal direction, with the ability to make independent judgments and/or decisions and to discern when action of a higher level is required.
- Demonstrated analytical and organizational skills, including effective planning and management of multiple projects and database management.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
- Demonstrated integrity, professional maturity, discretion, judgment, and decisiveness to inspire confidence among internal and external stakeholders.
- Exhibits strong and effective analytical, critical thinking and decision-making skills when working with a range of stakeholders.
- Proficient working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, as well as databases and reporting software.
