Position Summary:
As a national leader in the service of smallwares, United is innovating in this space and looking for a driven, entrepreneurial and analytical Business Development Specialist. This is a remote position based on Western Canada to cover all the Western Canada, and will report to the Sales Manager. You will maintain regular contact with an established portfolio of accounts while seeking new opportunities that may exist in the market. In addition to your account development work, you will also be responsible for contract compliance, sales growth, and margin maintenance. You will also be the liaison between the customer, our internal team here at United and GFS.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Serves as the primary point of contact for all customer business and account related issues. Coordinates resources to present “one face to the customer.”
- Work to the three-prong strategy of bringing in new accounts, penetrating existing accounts through category penetration and converting customers to GFS Branded and Primary Vendor products
- Lead, coach and develop Account Coordinators in terms of contract compliance, relationship building, and corporate profitability goals.
- Work with Account Coordinators and Supply Chain analysts on a variety of customer issues such as new product implementation, promotional activity, and general inventory management.
- Develops sales forecasts and sets goals for key account activity.
- Develops account business plans to include customer and United objectives and implementation strategies, and promote the customers and United stated values and positions, while selling/promoting the United/GFS brand throughout the customer’s organization.
- Coordinates and communicates strategic account activity and engages senior leadership sponsorship of customers, where appropriate.
- Coordinates internal account planning sessions with their account teams to ensure the highest level of customer success.
- Review monthly reports to ensure contract compliance and profitability.
- Utilize and apply customer profitability and pricing models to negotiate customer agreements.
- Sources new products and initiates product conversions. Looks for category penetration opportunities
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
- This position requires creative and analytical thinking; the employee must also have excellent interpersonal, communication, collaboration, and organizational skills to assist with the sales growth.
- 3 to 4 years previous sales management experience with emphasis on product/category (multi-unit account experience preferred)
- Must have successful contract negotiation skills.
- Must be able to manage one’s own time, prioritize work tasks, be detail-oriented, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Effective communication in an open and direct manner; conveys information clearly and concisely, with strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong listening skills - understand and reflect accurately on the message.
- Team player; actively participates to create and execute on team goals.
