Business Development Specialist

Our Business Development, Knowledge and Marketing Team is at the forefront of our realising our vision of profitable growth, engaged people and outstanding client relationships.
The BD Specialist is an integral part of our BD function, supporting practice groups, industry groups, and client account teams in achieving their commercial and marketing goals. The role focuses on specific practice, industry, or client teams, or a combination, managing stakeholders including senior BD team members, partners, and other lawyers, with support from BD Coordinators.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • The ideal candidate will be a Graduate with at least 3 years’ of relevant and in-depth business development experience, within a professional services firm
  • Relevant marketing (CIM) or a postgraduate qualification (advantageous)
  • Proven experience in professional services, including interaction with senior stakeholders and autonomous work
  • Exceptional communication skills (written and oral) and the ability to engage at all levels
  • Demonstrated flexibility, commitment, and enthusiasm, with keen attention to detail.
  • Exposure to client relationship management is beneficial, along with strong influencing and negotiating skills
  • Proficiency in systems and databases (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, CRM applications) is essential
  • Strong team player with a client-focused approach and a creative, strategic mindset
  • Ability to work independently, under pressure, and meet tight deadlines

Responsibilities:

Business Development – Global Mining & Metals and ITL Industry Groups

  • Collaborating with senior business development teams to deliver objectives outlined in business plans, supporting specific industry-related business, client development initiatives, and key priority client targets.
  • Developing an in-depth understanding of the Mining and ITL industries and their priority areas, conducting client, market, sector, and decision-maker research and analysis as required.
  • Assisting with RFP responses, and leading where possible, while producing and maintaining relevant credentials, including lawyers’ biographies, deal lists, brochures, and capability statements for client targeting efforts.
  • Supporting industry meetings by preparing agendas, taking and distributing minutes, and regularly reviewing financial reports to support industry and client development efforts.
  • Updating and maintaining Connect and external pages on the Firm’s website, ensuring accurate and timely recording of all pitches, proposals, and business opportunities in the Firm’s CRM system (InterAction), and promoting the use of the Firm’s matter experience database.
  • Leading the submissions process for legal directories (Chambers and Partners, Legal 500, etc.), providing feedback, and reporting on rankings and awards, while coordinating with Creative Services and Marketing Technology teams to produce, distribute, and evaluate client publications and maintain mailing lists.
  • Proactively working with the Firm’s Communications Team to improve the profile and positioning of the groups internally and externally, actively contributing to the Firm’s social media programmes and activities, and supporting internal communication strategies.
  • Assisting in organising internal and external events, building relationships with key external organisations, and sharing information with colleagues across the Firm to ensure an integrated industry and practice offering.
