JOB DESCRIPTION
Tidewater Community College has served South Hampton Roads – both students and employers – for 50 years. It has grown from 1 campus into a regional educational and economic force. TCC is the largest provider of higher education and workforce services in Hampton Roads, enrolling nearly 28,000 students in 2019-20. Founded in 1968 as a part of the Virginia Community College System, Tidewater Community College (TCC) services South Hampton Roads with 4 campuses in Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, and Virginia Beach, 7 regional centers and 2 important cultural institutions. The college had 3,203 graduates in 2019-2020, 40 percent of whom pursued degrees that would let them transfer to 4-year institutions. Of South Hampton Roads residents enrolled in higher education 36% enrolled at TCC. TCC’s institutional accreditation is affirmed through 2027 by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.
This position will provide administrative, business, and financial management services for the campus including oversight of the daily operation of the Campus Business Office. Primary responsibilities include assisting students and the general public by answering inquiries related to fiscal policies and the operation of the business office, supervising/managing staff within the business office operation, entering all forms of payments PeopleSoft/SIS system, verifying and attaching third party tuition payment authorizations to contracts, preparing daily deposit and associated documentation, and processing/maintaining various students in the college accounts receivable database. The position will be expected to work effectively with the academic division and student services offices, Payroll, AIS, Facilities Management, Material Management, and other internal offices.
KSA’S/REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and practices
- Knowledge of business office operations
- Knowledge of cash management functions
- Knowledge of budget tracking, analysis, and reporting.
- Skill in the use of personal computers and various software programs including spreadsheets, data base management, and word processing
- Ability to supervise, train, evaluate, plan and review work of staff
- Knowledge of effective customer service and problem-solving techniques
- Skills in decision-making and interpreting policy
- Experience supervising staff and performing accounting and business management functions
