THE OPPORTUNITY:

The University of Manitoba is looking for a Business Officer to join the Financial Services unit. As a valued and integrated member of the Financial Services management team, you will work closely with the Chief Financial Officer and Comptroller and Financial Services Management team to develop and manage the departmental budget and support departmental operations.
Key responsibilities of this position include developing and managing the budget and supporting the day-to-day activities of Financial Services. You will monitor expenditures and monthly operating budget, initiate online accounting entries and adjustments, journal entries, interdepartmental charges, requisitions for disbursements, prepare schedules for staffing vacancies, participate in forecasting exercises, review capital equipment inventory records, verify weekly timesheets and approve payroll authorization reports. You will also support University-wide financial policy development and other special projects as assigned by the CFO.

THE QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

  • Accounting designation (CPA) or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Three years of experience developing and managing budgets is required.
  • Experience preparing and monitoring budgets and preparing financial projections.
  • Experience interpreting and applying financial and administrative policies, procedures and practices.
  • Experience working with ERPs as it relates to financial and human resources activities.
  • Proficiency in the use of computer software (MS Office), particularly advance skills in Excel and other office equipment is required.
  • Strong attention to detail, ability to understand, organize and communicate financial information.
  • Effective communication skills, and diplomacy required with ability to work with others.
  • Ability to perform efficiently under time pressures with a heavy workload to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to exercise sound, independent judgment and action.
