Location:
This position is eligible for a hybrid work model. When attending an event or meeting in person, your primary office location will be based out of Sims Square located at 390 Brant Street, Burlington. Work location is subject to change at the discretion of the City due to operational demands.
Position Overview:
The Business Partner, Human Resources (HR) provides a full range of HR management and consultative advice/counsel to designated client groups. The position formulates partnerships across the HR function to deliver value-added service to management and employees.
Responsibilities:
As members of the Human Resources team, our Business Partners are senior generalists who are responsible for providing both operational and strategic HR support to their specific client groups. Responsibilities will include providing support, advice and guidance to employees and people leaders in the areas of:
- Employee and Labour Relations including advising supervisors and managers on the interpretation, application and administration of the City’s Collective Agreements
- Recruitment;
- Career and retirement planning;
- Performance management;
- Organizational development;
- Policy and employment legislation
- Investigations
You will have demonstrated ability to approach situations from an objective perspective with tact, diplomacy and integrity, looking for creative solutions where possible. Relationship building at all levels of the organization is key to success. Our Business Partners provide guidance and advice in a customer focused manner.

Requirements:
- Minimum 4 years’ experience in an HR Generalist or Business Partner role in a unionized environment.
- University Degree in a related field and/or a post graduate diploma in Human Resources. A CHRL designation is considered an asset.
- Education or specialized training in labour relations and workplace investigations.
- Comprehensive knowledge of employment legislation including the Labour Relations Act, Employment Standards Act, Ontario Human Rights Code and stays current on emerging trends and best practices in employee relations.
- Ability to build effective working relationships across the organization with a range of stakeholders at all levels.
- Ability to use judgement and work independently in a fast-paced environment to meet competing demands.
- Ability to thrive in a collaborative environment where lessons are shared, questions are encouraged, and a continuous improvement mindset is a must.
This position may require occasional travel between sites and/or City facilities.
