QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS

  • A business or legal qualification would be highly regarded.
  • Knowledge of and/or experience working with legislation.
  • A current Victoria Drivers Licence is desirable but not mandatory.

The Local Government Inspectorate (LGI) is the dedicated integrity agency for local government focusing on investigations for breaches and compliance with the legislation, and we are looking for a talented Business Support Officer to join the team. Whilst we are a busy office with plenty of work on, we are sure to maintain work-life balance and are keen to see the development of staff to follow their own career goals.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Business Support Officer is the first point of contact for the Local Government Inspectorate dealing with requests for information, advice or assisting people with complaints in relation to Local Government. This can be via phone or email.
Key requirements of this position include customer relations and communications skills in the context of a regulatory environment. The Business Support officer is also required to provide business reporting, administration support to the unit and liaison with other corporate business areas within the State Government.

Some of your duties will include:

  • The Business Support Officer at the LGI is responsible for the first point of contact for all enquiries, approaches and correspondence.
  • Receipt and response to incoming phone calls.
  • Receipt recording in the Case Management System and response to complaints.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Local Government Act 2020 (Vic) or experience working in a regulatory environment.
  • Demonstrated ability using a wide range of software application features for word processing, excel spreadsheets, databases, registers, etc and assisting others with problem-solving on IT systems as well as experience using case management systems, in particular in a Dynamics platform, and finance systems such as Oracle or other accounts payable systems.
  • Demonstrated high-level verbal and written communication skills, ensuring appropriate format, style and approach is taken to deliver best outcomes for the Inspectorate.
  • Demonstrated ability identifying processes, tasks and resources required to achieve a goal, prioritising activities, operating accordingly and reviewing and adjusting as required.
  • Develop and implement systems and procedures to guide work and track progress, recognising barriers and finds effective ways to deal with them
