Summary
The incumbent is responsible and accountable for the overall sales and marketing functions of this unit. The incumbent is accountable for the strategic sales and marketing objectives of the franchise, establishing sales territories and quotas, managing budgets and evaluating sales performance.

Key Performance Areas

  • To drive the development and execution of strategic sales and marketing objectives for the country, in line with global business directives.
  • To measure and report on the critical performance drivers.
  • To develop business relationships with key opinion leaders in both the private and the public sector.
  • As a member of the South African Exco and SA Leadership teams, to develop plans and strategies for the management and growth of the company.
  • Monitor and control the company’s performance and finances in accordance with the approved budgets
  • To ensure that all staff are effectively employed and adequately trained to perform their responsibilities and operational tasks in an ethical and responsible manner.

Essential Job Functions

  • Drives front line management functions to the sales and marketing organizations. Manages overall marketing strategies for local product portfolios in line with group vitality indices. Strategies and plans are captured in the form of Brand Plans.
  • Manages and drives collaboration activities with the global head offices.
  • Develops and manages relationships with key opinion leaders and surgeon champions, with specific focus on gaining international recognition for surgeon partners.
  • Develops and formulates working relationships with key Government stakeholders, ensuring compliance with regulatory objectives.
  • Maintains compliance with SAMED policies, and adherence to relevant codes.
  • Reports monthly on business activity across the Business Unit, including commenting on financial, marketing and surgeon mix.
  • Attends and comments monthly at Exco and SA Leadership Forum review on company performance and ad hoc operational issues.
  • Attends relevant local and international business/surgeon meetings to advance the overall performance of the Business Unit.
  • Ensures accurate recording of various legal contracts, e.g. agents, distributors.

  • Where applicable seeks the appropriate approvals from the local QA/RA Department
  • Follows and complies with all applicable legislation of a rapidly changing market, gaining a better understanding of the in-country dynamics, and sales opportunity.

Requirements

  • Matric plus tertiary qualifications up to MBA level.
  • Previous business experience in a related industry, with at least 5 years at senior management level.
  • Demonstrates understanding of the overall Smith & Nephew and industry context – the “bigger picture”.
  • Demonstrates drive and passion in delivering results.
  • Demonstrates the ability and discipline to analyse complex situations and is creative in seeking solutions.
