ABOUT US
The Executive Council Office (ECO) leads the execution of government’s mandate and ensures alignment of government priorities through objective analysis and advice to the Executive Council (Cabinet) and its Committees. ECO supports the Executive Council by facilitating government’s decision-making process, delivering clear direction to departments, developing and advancing corporate priorities and plans, and providing corporate leadership for agencies, boards and commissions. ECO provides administrative and operational support to the Office of the Premier, operates the Nova Scotia Gift Bank and Premier’s Certificate Program. ECO also provides leadership across government to accelerate system-level change, collaborating with departments to ensure government’s priorities are advanced and supported in the areas of strategy, decision-making, policy design and operations. ECO coordinates the government’s response to inquiry recommendations, specifically the Mass Casualty Commission (MCC) and the DFI, and provides secretariat support with the federal government for the MCC’s Progress Monitoring Committee.
PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Independently review submissions to the Executive Council for adherence to ECO standards. This examination requires a thorough knowledge and understanding of the different types of submissions that are considered by the Executive Council and its Committees.
Coordinate all logistical and technical requirements to ensure the efficient management of Executive Council and Committee meetings. This includes liaising with Minister and Deputy Minister Offices to confirm Ministers’ attendance at meetings, preparation and compilation of all necessary meeting materials for advance distribution to Ministers and Senior Officials.
The Cabinet Committee Coordinator is responsible to ensure all decisions of the Executive Council and its Committees are properly documented, officially communicated and released, which includes drafting official documents such as Orders in Council and Minute Letters.
Maintains the electronic databases for submissions to the Executive Council and the public-facing Orders in Council website, ensuring that submissions and decisions of the Executive Council and its Committees are recorded accurately.
Play a key role in the preparation of highly confidential documents associated with key government transitions such as the swearing in of a new government.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
The successful candidate will have:
- Graduated from a post-secondary program in secretarial, business administration, or paralegal studies, plus a minimum of four (4) years related experience in a senior administrative role. An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision, analyze situations thoroughly and solve problems independently.
- A high degree of professionalism, tact and diplomacy and proven experience in exercising discretion and confidentiality.
- Strong time management skills with an ability to prioritize under tight deadlines.
- Evidence of strong communication skills (both verbal and written), organizational skills and sound judgement.
- Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and web-based applications (such as SharePoint) are required.
- Experience using FileNet is considered an asset.
