Reporting to the Education Manager and collaborating closely with the education team, the Camps and Clubs Coordinator will lead engaging educational programming that highlights the diverse ecosystems of Stanley Park, including forests, wetlands, and intertidal zones. This role is responsible for organizing and managing the registration and promotion of all spring and summer EcoCamps, while also playing a key role in delivering school field trips.
SPES school programs reach over 5,000 students annually through outdoor, experiential learning that inspires environmental literacy and fosters a deep curiosity and connection to the natural world. As part of a dynamic team, the Camps and Clubs Coordinator contributes to special events, seasonal programming, and interpretive initiatives showcasing the park’s plants and wildlife.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND TRAINING
- Experience with outdoor teaching, leadership skills related to nature interpretation;
- Degree, diploma, or other relevant experience in environmental sciences (e.g. biology, forestry);
- Education degree and/or teacher certification is a strong asset;
- Demonstrated experience successfully teaching or leading student groups;
- Experience in outdoor education and/or nature interpretation;
- Computer skills with Monday.com and Canva are an asset
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Strong interpersonal and coordination skills with a collaborative work style;
- Willingness and ability to work indoors or outdoors, rain or shine and in cold conditions;
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a kind and professional manner;
- Proficiency with word processing, database entry, and email;
- Strong knowledge of BC ecology is an asset;
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
- Fluency in other languages than English is an asset;
- Communication skills with social media, engagement analytics;
- Ability to pass a criminal record check with vulnerable sector search
Responsibilities:
- Coordinate and manage the booking and administration of SPES EcoCamps and Critter Club, including handling email, website updates, phone inquiries, and data entry;
- Deliver STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) outdoor experiential environmental education programs for school students, teachers, club participants and day camp children;
- Support the booking of SPES field trips and teacher professional development workshops;
- Contribute to the ongoing development of new nature-based programs and educational content;
- Coordinate the training, scheduling, and supervision of program volunteers and contract staff;
- Collaborate with the education team to deliver a variety of programs, including field trips, camps, clubs, workshops, and webinars that connect people to nature;
- Collaborate on program advertising, including creating newsletter updates, drafting social media posts, and designing promotional materials like posters;
- Update, maintain, and develop program materials and equipment as needed;
- Participate in/contribute to SPES culture-building around equity, inclusivity, decolonization, ecology knowledge and perspective growth;
- Participate in regular departmental and organizational meetings and functions;
- Deliver in-person or online education programs for public programs;
- Work occasional shifts as an educator at the Nature House on Lost Lagoon;
- Contribute to grants or new funding opportunities and provide input into budgets and approaches to education, as capacity and timing allow;
- Fulfills related inter-departmental duties as required by the Education Manager
