Elim Village operates two exceptional aging in place communities for older adults. Our retirement villages are located in Surrey and Chilliwack, B.C., where over 1,000 seniors call Elim Village ‘home’. JOB SUMMARY
We are looking for a dynamic and motivated Campus Pastor. The Campus Pastor is a preacher, teacher, and leader, setting the direction of spiritual wellness within the community of Elim Village. Performed from a Christian faith perspective, the Campus Pastor works together with other Elim Village departments to enrich the spiritual lives of residents, staff and volunteers, fostering a strong sense of community and authenticity.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Degree in Theology is required and a Masters of Divinity would be an asset (equivalent)
- Education courses/training relevant to spiritual and end of life care, loss, and grief support
- Training and/or experience working with older adults
- Sensitivity and ability to work with spiritual, religious and cultural diversity
- Counselling education/experience would be an asset
- Computer literate. Proficient user of Microsoft Office suite
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Comfortable leading and preaching at church services, bible studies, memorial or celebration of life services and administering ordinances
- Able to uphold ethical and professional standards and behave in a manner that upholds the values, standards of care and faith heritage of Elim Village
- Multicultural understanding and the ability to support the many spiritual paths, lifestyles, beliefs, and values of individuals, especially older adults
- Strong understanding and compliance with the principles and practices of confidentiality
- Comfortable with all aspects of leading a service (setting out chairs, using AV systems, etc)
- Excellent active listening skills, verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as a collaborative team member
- Able to generate rapport rapidly with a wide diversity of residents and those close to them
- Committed to personal, physical, spiritual, emotional, and intellectual well-being and development
- Comfortable initiating conversations with residents and families
Responsibilities:
- Maintains an active and visible role within Elim Village to enhance teaching, preaching, and leading the spiritual wellbeing of the community in traditional and creative ways
- Promotes caring and compassion in daily interactions
- Quality communication, both written and verbal
- Responds to all events in which residents, families, and staff members would seek and benefit from spiritual support, guidance, and leadership presence of a pastor
- Participates in meetings as established or deemed necessary
