Description:
DESCRIPTION
Prevents, detects and investigates disturbances; maintains order; patrols assigned areas; enforces traffic regulations. Complies with and adheres to all applicable campus, local, state, and federal laws.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
A. Associate’s degree (AA) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
B. Two years prior police experience.
C. Be 21 years of age or older and a U.S. citizen.
D. Possess a valid Illinois driver’s license, and a valid Illinois FOID card.
E. Must be able to walk eight hours per day and assist in evacuating non-ambulatory persons in an emergency.
F. Ability to analyze situations and to adopt quick, effective and reasonable courses of action.
G. Ability to use good discretion and deal courteously but firmly with general public.
H. Strong oral and written communication skills.
I. Availability and ability to work varying shift assignments which may include day, evening and weekend responsibilities.
J. Maintains certification by the Illinois Local Governmental Law Enforcement Officer’s Training & Standards Board.
K. Maintains annual firearms certification as required by Illinois Public Act 94-103.
L. Maintains LEADS and AED/CPR certification.
M. Participates in a minimum of 24 hours of in-service training per year.
N. Ability to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 25 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
O. Position requires visual acuity to operate motor vehicles and/or equipment.
P. Ability to work in conditions that include exposure to extreme weather, intense physical activity, combat with armed and or/dangerous persons, individuals with contagious diseases, and safety hazards associated with emergency driving and traffic control.
Q. Ability to pass psychological, medical, and drug screening tests.
R. Successful completion of an ILETSB certified Policy Academy.
S. Ability to learn the geography of KCC and the City of Kankakee.
T. Ability to learn police radio broadcasting and communication procedures.

Responsibilities:

B. Answers calls for protection of life and private property and the enforcement of Campus, City, County and State Laws.
C. Responds to all emergencies during assigned duty shift. Administers first aid, performs CPR, and applies AED as necessary.
D. Conducts investigations of burglaries, thefts, holdups, accidents and other disturbances.
E. Directs traffic, including regulation of vehicle flow at emergency or congested places; stops drivers who are operating vehicles in violation of laws.
F. Collects and presents evidence using scientific identification techniques.
G. Testifies in court in connection with criminal prosecution, may serve warrants and subpoenas.
H. Gives information and directions to the public.
I. May operate equipment to dispatch officers on patrol.
J. Performs a variety of public safety work such as assisting at fires, campus events, and crowd control.
K. May act as special escort on transporting large sums of money.
L. May serve as an escort for students, employees, and visitors as requested.
M. Works special events such as Fourth of July, sporting events and other college approved events.
N. Prepares, writes and files daily activity reports with superior officer.
O. Responds to medical calls.
P. Assists with evacuations (fire/weather etc.).
Q. Assists other Police Departments as requested.
R. Completes annual firearm training and any other training as required by (ILETSB) or as directed by Chief or Deputy Chief.
S. Performs related duties as required.
T. Responds to the functions of the position in an environmental setting which might include cold, heat, odor, dampness, dirt, fumes, dust, oil, grease, noise, or vibration on a frequent basis. Appropriate protective devices are available as required.
