YOUR SKILLS & ABILITIES (REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS)
- Bachelor’s degree in communications or related field
- 8+ years of proven experience in managing communications for large employee campuses.
- Storytelling, Writing & Editing: Mine stories and tell them in a compelling and relevant way for employees; Concise & conversational writing skills; Edit copy to align with corporate strategic goals and company narrative/editorial style.
- Attention to Detail: Ensure accuracy and clarity in all communications.
- Strategic Communications and Event Planning: Ability to plan and execute strategic initiatives, including those related to change management, and large-scale events.
- Adaptability: Manage multiple high-profile projects and adapt to changes with short notice.
- Independent Working: Capable of working independently while interacting with colleagues from executives to hourly employees.
- Managerial Courage: Being willing and able to push back, redirect, and counsel

Responsibilities:
THE ROLE
Seeking a Campus Site Communications Manager to lead strategic internal communications, change management initiatives, and employee engagement activities at our major employee campuses and labs in Southeast Michigan. These campuses and labs bring together engineers, designers, and executives working toward our vision of zero crashes, zero emissions, and zero congestion.
This role is pivotal in unifying communication efforts across GM’s major SE Michigan locations, modernizing our internal communications channels, content, and processes; and helping employees navigate their workplaces to maximize productivity, engagement, and collaboration.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Oversee communications for office locations in Warren, Pontiac, and Detroit, and manage communications contract support for Milford campus and Southeast Michigan Labs.
- Work cross-functionally with site leadership, safety, environmental, facilities, HR/Labor, medical, and security.
- Story mine, write and edit a variety of internal communications, including campus-wide announcements and internal articles for 30,000+ residents.
- Manage multiple Southeast Michigan non-manufacturing campus internal news sites and their internal social networking tool.
- Handle all photo, video, and event requests across campuses, including those with the media, ensuring effective event execution.
- Opportunities: employee ride & drives, media tours and briefings, leadership meetings, internal recognitions, medical and safety events, and city-related activities that impact the campus.
- Lead communication efforts during crisis events.
- Create and maintain comprehensive emergency response communication plans.
- Serve as an integral part of the Emergency Response Coordination Team, drafting and distributing urgent alerts to campus tenants using GM’s automated notification system.
- Safety Review Board member, tracking the safety concerns process and employee engagement.
- Develop strategic communication plans to support business actions and change management initiatives.
- Assist senior executives by coordinating town hall meetings, crafting leader messages, and preparing remarks for various employee events.
- Develop and implement playbooks, templates, and processes to ensure best practice sharing across GM’s global campuses.
