This role is unique, and you will be a crucial part in the care of our Tangata. You will need to be able to get on with different kinds of people, our Tangata live relatively active lifestyles so keeping up with them is very important because of this you will need to;

  • Qualification in health and wellbeing or community support worker, mental health and disability sectors would be advantageous, however not mandatory
  • Be confident, practical and have good listening skills to be able to address needs of our Tangata
  • Having previous experience in completing personal care responsibilities desirable
  • Have a solution-focused approach to issues and an empathetic approach to interactions with others
  • Physically fit and able to lift along with having the ability to be on your feet for most of the day

As a kaupapa Maori service we strive to make a difference in the lives of Tangata by surrounding them with a caring environment based on Maori values of respect and whanau. The service appeals to a wide range of people of different ethnicities because of Te Roopu Taurima’s philosophy of accepting and valuing all cultural practices

Responsibilities:

MŌ TE TŪNGA | ABOUT THE ROLE

We are looking for a Care and Support worker to join our professional team. We provide residential support to 4 male Tangata (clients) who have intellectual disabilities, enabling them to be as independent as possible with their daily routines and activities.

Some of the responsibilities include:

  • Assisting with physical & personal care ensuring good personal hygiene such as washing, showering
  • Support with cooking, household/property cleaning and other maintenance to keep the home a healthy and safe place
  • Administering medication
  • Driving to the appointments, gym classes and supermarket
  • Variety of other duties which enable them a somewhat independent lifestyle

It is important you can work a rotating 24/7 roster including weekends.

The shifts are as below:

  • 7am - 3pm
  • 3pm - 11pm
  • 11pm - 7am
  • 1pm – 9pm
