We are seeking a caring and enthusiastic part-time Care Companion to join our team. In this role, you will have the rewarding opportunity to enhance the lives of our clients by providing them with supportive and compassionate companionship.
Position: Part-Time Care Companion
Location: Must be based in the Halifax Regional Municipality and be able to travel throughout the area. (required)
Schedule: Depending on the clients’ schedule preference, shift duration could be a minimum of 3 hours to a maximum of 12 hours.
Wage: $16-$18 per hour
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Communication Skills: Demonstrated excellence in English communication and interpersonal skills.
- Empathy and Patience: Employ a compassionate approach to caregiving with the ability to remain calm under pressure.
- Listening and Decision-Making: Exceptional listening skills and the ability to make logical, effective decisions.
- Professionalism: A warm, professional demeanor in all interactions.
- Continuous Learning: A genuine enthusiasm for learning and staying informed about best practices.
- Reliability and Trustworthiness: Proven reliability, honesty, and trustworthiness in previous roles.
- Alignment with Values: Commitment to our core values of Compassion, Integrity, Curiosity, and Generosity is essential.
- Care Experience: Experience supporting those with cognitive challenges, Dementia, or similar caregiving experience. (preferred, not required)
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent. (required)
- Technology: Reliable access to a computer or tablet with internet and a mobile device for communication. (required)
- Licenses and Certifications: A valid Class 5 Nova Scotia Driver’s License, current First Aid & CPR Level C certification. (required)
- Background Checks: Clear and up-to-date Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check. (required)

Responsibilities:
- Visit Reporting: Complete and submit detailed reports following each visit to ensure accurate records.
- Communication: Maintain open and honest communication with the Business Owner.
- Punctuality: Arrive promptly for all scheduled visits to maintain a reliable and professional presence.
- Training: Engage in necessary training and keep your certifications and record checks up to date.
- Appearance: Present yourself in clean, professional attire suitable for client interactions.
- Focus: Understand and respect each client’s limitations while emphasizing their strengths and capabilities.
- Safety and Confidentiality: Adhere to company policies to ensure client safety and confidentiality.
- Support: Provide emotional support and be a reliable friend to clients and their families.
- Nutrition: Implement good nutritional practices based on client dietary needs, with training provided.
- Flexibility: Adapt to diverse situations with attention to detail and a willingness to adjust as needed.
- Mindfulness: Be attentive to the comfort, needs, and preferences of others, including our clients and their families, demonstrating sensitivity in all interactions.
- Engagement: Provide meaningful companionship, assist with daily activities, and engage clients in enjoyable activities (such as coloring).
- Housekeeping: Perform minimal light housekeeping tasks as needed, such as cleaning up spills.
- Physical Requirements: Able to sit, stand, and move for extended periods; lift or move objects up to 50 lbs as needed.
- Physical Care: Note that physical care tasks are not required for this role.
We provide thorough and ongoing training to ensure you feel prepared and confident in your role.
