JOB TITLE: CAREER GUIDANCE TEACHER (TUTORING PLATFORM)
Job Summary: In the role of a Career Guidance teacher, you will provide personalised, one-on-one career guidance and coaching to students and their parents through the Empowering Me Platform. This title role focuses on helping students identify their strengths, explore potential career pathways, and develop actionable steps for success. This position offers flexibility in both scheduling and the ability to mentor students remotely. There is also an emphasis placed upon empowering both students and parents to make informed career decisions.
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:
- Educational Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Education Psychology, Human Resources, or a related field.
- Certification in Career Counselling or Coaching (preferred).
- Experience:
- At least 2 years of experience in career counselling, coaching, or providing career guidance to students.
- Experience working with diverse students and their families in a remote or online environment.
- Familiarity with the digital tools and platforms used for online tutoring and counselling.
- Skills & Competencies:
- Strong Communication Skills: Ability to communicate effectively and empathetically with students and parents through virtual mediums.
- Active Listening: Skilled at identifying student needs and providing tailored advice.
- Adaptability: Capable of adjusting to the unique needs and preferences of each student and family.
- Career Knowledge: Familiarity with a broad range of career options, educational programs, certifications, and industry trends.
- Technical Proficiency: Comfortable using online tutoring platforms, video conferencing software, and career development tools.
- Goal-Orientated: Ability to set clear, actionable goals and guide students toward successful career development.
Responsibilities:
- One-on-One Career Guidance:
- Offer personalised, one-on-one career guidance sessions for students and parents through the online platforms (video calls, chat, or other digital communication tools).
- The provision of value, personality, and aptitude testing. With these results in mind, you will be better equipped to help students assess their strengths, skills, and interests.
- Guide students through these results and present the career paths that would be best suited to them and their skillset.
- Help students understand their educational and professional choices and how to align them with their long-term goals.
- Career Exploration & Pathway Development:
- Provide insights into a wide range of careers, including emerging fields and professions.
- Develop individualised career and educational plans based on each student’s academic background, skills, and aspirations.
- Assist students in exploring higher education options, vocational training, certifications, and internships that align with their chosen career paths.
- Parental Guidance & Involvement:
- Educate and involve parents in the career development process by offering them advice on how to support their children’s career goals.
- Hold occasional parent meetings to provide updates on student progress and suggest ways parents can foster positive career choices.
- Skills Development & Job Readiness:
- Help students develop essential career-related skills such as interview techniques, resume building, personal branding, and job search strategies.
- Offer advice on how to network effectively, use social media platforms like LinkedIn, and explore job markets in various industries.
- Prepare students for professional success by providing resources, tools, and exercises to enhance their job readiness.
- Support for Career Transitions:
- Support students who are making transitions between education stages (e.g., from secondary school to third-level education, from third-level to career) or changing career paths.
- Provide guidance on internships, job search strategies, and how to leverage skills for career advancement or changes.
- Ongoing Mentorship & Accountability:
- Provide continued mentorship throughout the career exploration and decision-making process, following up with students to track progress on their goals.
- Regularly evaluate students’ progress, offering constructive feedback and adjusting career plans as needed to ensure they stay on track.
- Flexible Scheduling:
- Offer flexible hours for one-on-one sessions to accommodate students’ and parents’ schedules, especially those balancing school, work, and other commitments.
- Ensure that sessions can be scheduled via the tutoring platform, allowing for virtual interactions.
