Care for the Carers is an independent charity and the Carers Centre for East Sussex. We have been supporting and representing unpaid carers in East Sussex since 1989.
SCDA is a partner of Care for the Carers in this work and are looking for an individual who is friendly, skilled and experienced in giving information and advice regarding energy costs and income maximisation to working carers in East Sussex. Many of these clients are vulnerable to financial hardship and require assistance on non-specialist advice related issues, and/or assistance in accessing other relevant & specific services or specialist advice provision.
Supporting referrals from Care for the Carers and working as a member of a joint Care for the Carers and SCDA team, the Carers’ Community Navigator will act as a point of contact for carers experiencing financial hardship. You will provide casework to support increased income and reduced expenditure by reviewing benefits, energy costs and other incomings/outgoings to ensure income is maximised. You will hold a caseload for longer more in-depth cases as well as providing shorter phone support for signposting, referrals and any actions requiring a quick intervention.
From your experience, you will understand the needs of carers in the local community. Good people skills, plus a confidential and non-judgmental approach are all important, along with the following attributes:
Able to plan your own workload;
Ability to work as part of a team and on own initiative;
IT literate, particularly working knowledge of Excel & using a database.
Based Newhaven with regular travel across E. Sussex to partner delivery locations.
We are looking for people to join our team who have the qualities and skills we feel would most benefit our clients; professionalism, empathy, kindness and understanding. In return, we understand people want to work in a supportive environment with friendly colleagues. We offer a flexible approach to delivery, annual leave of 23 days per year pro rata plus bank holidays and sick pay from the start (increasing with service), additional sick pay for required operations and recovery, a pension scheme, bereavement leave, and managers who are available to you… plus a day off for your birthday!
The role is based in Newhaven with regular travel in East Sussex. Car driver and owner preferred as some locations are rural and not served well by public transport. The post is subject to an enhanced DBS check.
The vacancy closes at 5pm on Sunday 3rd November 2024, with interviews conducted on Monday 11th November 2024 in Newhaven.
