Description:
Caseworkers are responsible for the development and delivery of daily-organized activities and one-to-one consultation that will engage, encourage and motivate the clients to make behavioral changes to find greater independence to maintain stable housing.
The successful applicant represents and applies the general philosophies and policies of the Victoria Addictions &
Rehabilitation Centre (Victoria A.R.C.) to its residents, visitors, other agencies and staff.
- 2 Full-time - contract position to March31, 2026 with possibility of extension
- Hours- 37.5 per week
EDUCATION:
- Required: Completion of a Bachelor’s Degree (4 Years) focusing on courses and/or material related to Social Work,Psychology and / or Counselling.
EXPERIENCE:
- Must have a minimum oftwo yearsrelated experience.
REQUIRED SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE:
- Must understand and reflect the ARC mission, vision and local commitment statement
- Must possess suitable typing skills and computer literacy;
- Must be calm in busy and sometimes stressful situations;
- Must be well organized;
- Must pass Criminal Record Check;
- Must be presentable in appearance in accordance with ARC standards;
- Must possess and maintain an active valid Occupational First Aid, Safe Talk, Naloxoneadministration, and NVCI certificates;
- Must have effective oral and written communication skills;
- Demonstrated excellent conflict resolution and problem-solving skills;
- Some group facilitation experience; coaching and leadership is considered an asset
- Demonstrates flexibility and creativity;
- Recognizes and supports a diverse and inclusive work environment ;
- Position subject to personnel screening request & authorization by Correctional Services of Canada.

Responsibilities:
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conducts intake assessments for Shelter Program including evaluation of client protection issues, determiningimmediate needs, referrals, and supports;
- Conducts intake assessments for Housing Programs including VAT assessment and Transition Housing contract;
- In collaboration with the clients, creates client centered case plans focused on self-empowerment, community reintegration, and self-sufficiency;
- Assists and support clients to obtain permanent housing, financial stability, employment and/ or assistance with medical, legal, identification and/or other documentation required for greater independence;
- Assists and support clients attend important appointments;
- Assists clients in writing, filling out and understanding government and other agency forms, applications, and paperwork;
- Assists clients in developing positive behavioral changes by using SOC Interventions and Motivational Interviewing techniques;
- May facilitate groups & workshops;
- Supports, advocates and refers clients to community resources, such as detox, treatment, counseling, legal aid, housing, and other required supports.
- Liaises/networks with The Salvation Army, government, and community social service providers to coordinate resources that benefit our clients and ensure the best possible outcomes.
- Uses non-violent crisis intervention to safely de-escalate aggressive, confrontational, angry, and / or stressed clients.
- Assists clients with gathering necessary items to set up permanent housing – household goods, furniture, food, etc.,
- Makes follow-up calls and complete follow-up documentation to determine if residents are maintaining independence;
ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ensures that intake forms are completed and accurate;
- Ensures intake information is entered and/or updated accurately, on the Client Information System and HIFIS
- Maintains confidentiality and keeps detailed & accurate client notes and case files;
- Participates and contributes in case management meetings;
- Acts as back-up for collegues and provides assistance when required;
- Ensures statistical data is entered accurately and compiles statistical reports as required;
- Communicates with and writes reports for external agencies or community resources in accordance withinternal policies and procedures;
- Recommends and assists in the development of new programs, community supports and departmental ororganizational policies so we continue to meet the needs of our clients;
- Attends community meetings, events and develops ongoing relationships within the local service provider community;
- Compiles progress reports and documents consistent with department policies;
- Participates in case management meetings and or team meetings and works to develop best practices, action stepsand process that will support the needs of clients and meets them where they are at;
- Attends team meetings and team building activities;
OTHER DUTIES:
- Attends all case conferences, staff meetings, and training seminars as required;
- Participates in upgrading/training at the discretion of department leadership;
- Perform other duties as assigned by department leadership
