Edmonton Catholic Schools is accepting applications for casual Educational Assistant positions for day-to-day assignments in various schools/ sites throughout the Division. This is a casual position, with no guarantee of hours to be worked. However, all casual hires are eligible to apply to internal temporary or permanent positions.
The job works as part of a multi-disciplinary team to assist students in learning and developing skills in the areas of socialization, communication, and behavior. The job also provides general support in the classroom.
Job Responsibilities:
- Assist teacher with planning, preparing, and implementing programs to meet student needs
- Organize classroom materials, activities, equipment, and programs
- Assist multi-disciplinary team with the implementation of developmental strategies
- Behaviour management
- Provide a range of personal and physical care
- Assist co-workers during peak periods and absences
Qualifications:
- High School diploma plus certificate/diploma in an area related to early childhood education or special needs education, plus one year directly related experience, or an equivalent combination of experience and qualifications
- Knowledge of intervention techniques and strategies, first aid, CPR, and administering medication
- Knowledge of Microsoft programs including Word, Outlook, and the internet
- Ability to communicate with sensitivity, diplomacy, and tact is essential
- Ability to effectively communicate in the English language both oral and written with the ability to develop and maintain communication with students, teachers, and specialists
- Ability to travel to sites within Edmonton
- Fluency in French, Spanish, Ukrainian, or knowledge and understanding of the Cree language and culture, is an asset.
