ABOUT THE ROLE

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Casualty Director to join our well established, high performing commercial Casualty team. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for leading an experienced team of people to shape the underwriting strategy, define our risk appetite and drive a sophisticated pricing approach across our Casualty lines of business. We are at an exciting growth stage of our development and you will play a key role in empowering our Underwriters to support sustainable growth, ensuring we remain a specialist in our chosen markets.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Leadership - Act as the lead expert across the Casualty portfolio for Ecclesiastical Insurance, providing deep technical expertise and strategic guidance.
  • Portfolio Management - Ensuring that the Group has a fit for purpose and proportionate portfolio management underwriting framework for all of its Casualty businesses in addition to providing effective challenge to the trading teams, ensuring continued focus on the delivery of the financial plans.
  • Technical Referrals – Provide an independent view on issues arising from formal referrals for the largest and most complex risks or where there is a departure from the existing offering or practice. Ensuring that underwriting decisions are well informed, balanced and aligned with our overall risk appetite.
  • Training and Development - To provide overall leadership for the technical development of Casualty Underwriters, the monitoring of technical competency and ensuring the need for technical succession is fulfilled. Promoting professional qualifications. Arranging and participating in technical training for Ecclesiastical Insurance, our key partners and customers.
  • Relationships - Ensuring adequate liaison between Underwriting, Claims and Risk Management to foster collaboration and that Claims and Risk Management philosophies align with our underwriting strategy. Support and strengthen key broker and customer relationships to ensure our products continue to meet the needs of our customers.
  • Compliance – Ensure the Casualty portfolio operates in line with Group control environment (including agreed authorities, business standards), risk management framework and UK regulatory and compliance requirements.
  • Reinsurance - Reviewing the appropriateness of Group reinsurance coverages and working closely with the Reinsurance Team to deliver an optimal reinsurance programme.
  • Market Developments – Review emerging technical and legal issues, as well as market developments to support the ongoing development of the Casualty portfolio.
  • Underwriting Appetite – Approving and monitoring any changes to the UK underwriting appetite including the identification of future appetite expansions to support our ambitious growth strategy.
