About The Role:
Supporting the category team in the strategic growth of their department through the professional execution of category priorities and initiatives set by the business. The category assistant supports the category manager with assortment entry, pricing and promotional planning and execution, working cross functionally with a main focus on the GT customer.
Workplace Arrangements:
This role will follow a hybrid remote/onsite schedule. Applicants for this role can expect to work on-site from our Ottawa Head Office, on Walkley Road 4 days a week for an 8-5 schedule.

What You’ll be Doing:
- Coordinate and support product development and assortment activities of the Category Team that align to category strategy, contribute to driving traffic, sales and margin, and adhere to safety, quality and regulatory standards
- Execute purchase activities and opportunities in accordance with approved product plans and strategy
- Support effective communications to all support teams relating to product and provide stores with relevant information needed to assist with purchasing decisions and quantification
- Support completion and production of sku and assortment related information per timelines and activities detailed in the Buying or Planogram Calendar to minimize disruptions
- Support strategic marketing activities for all commodities to ensure marketing objectives are accurately met
What You’ll Bring:
- Post-secondary education in Business, Fashion/Retail Management or equivalent experience
- 2-5 years of experience as a Category Coordinator or Category Assistant
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite of products
- Ability to problem solve and make adjustment on simple issues
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Understanding of retail mathematics related to sales, profitability/ inventory
- Great communicator, verbally and in writing
- Time management, organization and prioritization skills required
- Love for product and passion for the Giant Tiger Customer
- Bilingual in French and English (considered an asset)
- Strong financial acumen (considered an asset)
