About Diageo Procurement and the Role

  • Diageo Global Procurement is accountable for the Procurement of Supply, Marketing and Indirect categories with an annual spend of circa $12bn.
  • Procurement’s vision is to “Unlock the Power of our Ecosystems to win Sustainable Value” with a broad set of value delivery across Cost, Cash, Carbon (ESG) and Consumer impact.
  • The function has gone through a 3-yr transformation journey to strengthen procurement excellence, capability and the delivery of our Society 2030 Spirit of Progress ambition, which includes stretching commitments in respect to our carbon footprint in Grain-to-Glass (G2G) as well as investment with diverse suppliers and agencies. This transformation has established a solid foundation for the function to shift into the next phase where the level of Procurement contribution to business performance continues to grow.
  • Diageo’s Procurement function is structured to take advantage of our global scale through a model based on Globally led Category Procurement and Market led Procurement teams. We operate a strong collaboration model between our market and global category teams, where we work together as One Procurement Community. Our model enables global strategy development for defined global categories that are then implemented across the Markets considering nuances. The model aims to leverage scale of spend that can be consolidated and controlled globally, whilst at the same time having the appropriate in-Market procurement ownership for total procurement spend that sits within the Market P&Ls.
  • The Global Category Director, Media & Scale Reach (GCD) role is a strategic leadership role leading the team that drives global investment strategies across $1.5bn+ Media, Digital and Partnerships A&P investment (collectively media and scale reach – MSR). The GCD also leads Breakthrough Innovation procurement. This role sits on the Global Marketing Procurement Leadership Team, led by Head of Procurement, Global Marketing.
  • The GCD is supported by a team of 4 procurement professionals. Effective delivery requires integration and influence across a wide range of partners both internally and externally, using the investment ecosystem in its broadest sense.

As the Global Category Director MSR, you will lead a team which will:

  • Play a critical role in driving investment optimisation across our A&P, developing the investment strategies to ensure budgets and execution are directed into the channels that will drive growth and return for Diageo & our brands. Your leadership will focus on embedding this across markets and brands.
  • Deliver stretching cost and cash efficiency delivery across the global MSR spend portfolio in partnership with market procurement, ensuring always that this delivery enables business growth.
  • Strengthen integration of the procurement function into the broader business building brilliant collaborator relationships and influencing at the most senior levels of the organisation.
  • Bring category management excellence to the next level, integrating transformative strategies as the core and ensuring clear execution enablement for the markets.
  • Drive improved end to end value from our Supplier and Agency partners, by leveraging capabilities and innovation, built on a foundation of strong performance management.
  • Be the lead voice on Supplier and Agency risk management and resilience, driving strong compliance across the category value chains.
  • Drive outcomes across the categories, in line with our 2030 Diageo Spirit of Progress goals and targets, including across Supplier Diversity & Inclusion, Responsible Sourcing & Responsible Drinking, as well as Environmental & Climate management initiatives across Water, Packaging, Waste & Carbon (Scope 3) Reduction

Accountabilities: Be the ambassador for the categories within procurement and among Suppliers / Agencies, passionately driving value through Cost, Cash, Carbon (ESG) and Consumer opportunities, in return creating a competitive advantage, and ultimately growing the business.

  • Define and deliver stretching Global & Market Procurement objectives in alignment with Market / Marketing & Finance.
  • Ensure seamless leadership and collaborator relationships with the Marketing and Commercial leadership, and Procurement teams.
  • Ensure a deep understanding of market needs and global Procurement strategies, defining omnichannel category connections to drive efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Strengthen Supplier & Agency performance and relationship management through transformative performance management programmes.
  • Establish senior relationships with external partners, business critical / strategic Suppliers & Agencies as well as other companies, bringing external insight into Diageo.
  • Embed our Global Procurement organisation model and ways of working both within Procurement as well as with other functions.
  • Establish a resilient Talent Plan for the team.
  • Contribute to the overall strategic direction of the Global Procurement function.
  • Ensure high standards of risk management, compliance and governance in an increasingly complex environment.

  • Broad business acumen and gravitas to interact with and influence senior collaborators.
  • Skilled at building partnerships and followership both externally with our suppliers & agencies, and internally with business teams.

  • Experience across marketing spend categories.
  • Experience having led Procurement categories / Media in an international environment.
  • Experience in change and transformation of procurement categories to unlock performance.
  • Extensive experience in Procurement / Media in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience in building high performing teams.
