Where you will be working:
The Transitional Care Unit (TCU) is an 18-bed unit located at Woy Woy which provides a short-term residential service that is part of the Transitional Aged Care Program. The TCU provides goal-oriented, therapy-focussed care to meet individual needs with the aim of improving wellbeing and level of independence for older clients.
The Career Medical Officer (CMO) will oversee day to day medical issues, admissions and discharges liaising closely with the GP Senior Medical Officers under whom the patients are admitted. The CMO will work as part of a friendly and motivated multidisciplinary team of nursing staff, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists and Social Workers.
This is a 0.6FTE position with the option to increase up to 1FTE by working in another area of the Directorate of Community, Chronic and Complex Care such as Hospital in the Home (HiTH).
Gosford Hospital is the principal referral hospital and trauma centre for the Central Coast, with over 500 inpatient beds and 24/7 access to the emergency department and operating theatres. A recent $368 million dollar redevelopment delivered a new emergency department, ICU, nuclear medicine facility, special care nursery and expanded medical imaging services.
Wyong Hospital is an acute major metropolitan hospital with over 300 beds providing inpatient, outpatient and emergency services to residents in the northern region of the Central Coast. A recent $200 million expansion delivered a new emergency department, ICU, paediatric unit, inpatient wards, theatres and expanded medical imaging services.
In conjunction with the University of Newcastle, CCLHD has recently opened the Central Coast Clinical School and Research Institute on the Gosford Hospital campus, providing additional opportunities in training and research.

  • MBBS or equivalent, currently registered with the Medical Board of Australia.
  • Australian and NZ Graduates/Competent Authority Pathway Candidates: Completion of 3 post graduate years or more as a medical officer in an acute hospital setting and practiced clinical medicine in an acute hospital setting for a minimum of 12 months out of the past 2 years.
  • Previous experience in Geriatrics, General Medicine, Rehabilitation or General Practice.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a multidisciplinary team, including providing leadership and direction to ensure appropriate management of patients.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment utilising excellent clinical skills, judgment and expertise, with demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management.
  • Demonstrated time management, problem solving skills and excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and computer skills, with minimum of 30 words per minute. Along with evidence of continuing professional development and commitment to self-education.
  • Demonstrated understanding of how the District is Caring for the Coast and how this role would contribute.
