NextStar Energy (NSE) is an innovative joint venture company between LG and Stellantis and will be Canada’s first large-scale lithium-ion battery production plant when it begins production at the Twin Oaks site in Windsor Ontario. NextStar Energy is seeking a motivated and experienced Shift Supervisor in the Cell Quality Department to oversee our day and night shift operations. As a Cell Quality Shift Supervisor, you will be responsible for ensuring quality standards in accordance with the requirements of the organization. The supervisor will be responsible for coordinating work according to the availability and skill set of the technicians and inspectors and establishing work plans for each group based on the production demand. We are looking for innovative and responsible leaders with the ability to address quality issues in the production process, with a proactive and solution focused approach. The ideal candidate will be diligent, detail-oriented, and able to adapt to rapidly changing situations. Your ability to communicate effectively within all levels of organization to discuss and resolve quality issues in a timely manner will prove critical in the manufacturing of EV batteries at NextStar Energy.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelors’ degree (Science or Engineering) in a related field is required.
  • 5+ years of experience in related manufacturing quality or technical laboratory environment is required.
  • 3+ years of leadership experience is required.
  • Working experience with calibration and measuring devices such as calipers, gauges and other measuring instruments.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours to support customer production schedules including day and night shift on a rotating schedule on a reliable basis.
  • Knowledge of quality control tools and techniques such as Six Sigma is considered an asset.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.
  • Positive, dedicated attitude and demonstrated effectiveness to achieve given goals within timelines.
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent analyzing data and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop others.
  • Knowledge of SPC, ISO9001, IATF16949, ISO14001 an asset.
  • Greenbelt or Lean Six Sigma certifications considered an asset.

Responsibilities:

  • Direct and coordinate the activities of team members in the Cell Quality shift.
  • You will be responsible for the performance of Quality Inspectors and Technicians: Evaluating the inspectors and technicians’ performance on a periodic basis.
  • Mentor, train and develop your direct reports as needed to ensure quality standards are met.
  • Enforce safety and other applicable rules and regulations, cultivating a strong and positive safety culture.
  • Audit and support organization quality standard compliance as required (IATF 16949,etc).
  • Escalate and communicate quality and performance issues with required urgency.
  • Lead and participate in process investigations to improve process stability and capabilities on Cell components/products from its root cause.
  • Lead investigations for incidents relating to safety and environment and ensure proper reporting.
  • Facilitate and work towards consistent communication with cross-functional teams, including Production, Purchasing, Technology and Engineering.
  • Able to learn and train others on technical, safety, and quality control methods.
  • Maintain all lab and testing equipment/method with proper instruction including CMM, etc.
  • Manage the calibration and gauge R&R of testing equipment as required in the lab.
  • Maintain related records, logs, and paperwork.
  • Ensure all team members are productive and promote a harmonious work environment.
  • Conduct thorough and timely Layered Process Audits in appropriate work areas.
  • Review priorities and diverse skills of workers to ensure job tasks are assigned to appropriate workers.
  • Guide employees and less experienced workers to perform inspection tasks.
  • Ensure technicians and inspectors under supervision consistently meet their takt time requirements to meet production targets.
  • Must be able to work in low humidity environments of 1%, 10%, and 35%.
  • Must be able to wear clean room attire at all times (including coveralls, beard net, hair net/bump cap, safety glasses, safety shoes, surgical style mask, and latex or nitrile gloves).
  • Must be able to travel for up to six weeks in the next six months.
  • Maintain cleanliness at work-site in accordance with 5S3R Standards and ensure all employees follow your leadership and execute according to requirements:
  • Sort, Set in order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain.
  • Right Location, Right Quantity, Right Container.
