Description:

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced, high calibre candidate with a strong scientific background and a proven track-record in managing services and leading people, to co-manage day-to-day operations in the HHFT Cellular Pathology Department.
The successful candidate will assume co-operational responsibility for a UKAS IOS15189 accredited Cellular Pathology service that includes a Histology Department operating as a hub and satellite across the Royal Hampshire County Hospital site, Winchester and Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital sites respectively and an established Diagnostic Cytology section.
Your work will ensure that the department continues to deliver a high quality, timely and effective service, where patient experience and safety is central. Histology is actively reviewing work patterns to support faster diagnostic cancer targets, so an understanding of how to best deploy staff to create patient flow will be essential. The department is also being supported by the HHFT Quality Improvement team to empower staff to take ownership of flow to alleviate backlogs and use their expert task knowledge to best effect, so a manager with a background in team and people development is advantageous
The role will require the post-holder to be flexible and highly organised, able to align their values with those of the organisation, have the ability to delegate effectively and to work as part of a team with a ‘can-do’ positive attitude.
The post holder is a key member of the Cellular Pathology Management Team, responsible to the Cellular Pathology Manager for all aspects of the day to day operational delivery of a high quality and responsive Cellular Pathology service with a main laboratory (Histology and Cytology) based on the Winchester Royal Hampshire County Hospital site (RHCH) and a satellite laboratory service (some Histology functions) on the Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital Site (BNHH)
This is a leadership role with responsibility for supporting the Cellular Pathology Manager in the development of both a medium and long term strategy for the HHFT Histology and Cytology services that supports the wider Pathology strategic aims, encompassing service improvement and redesign.
The post holder will hold co-responsibility for the scientific and technical management of the service, including quality & regulatory requirements and appropriate training programmes for all staff within the department.
They will have co-responsibility for the day-to-day management of staff, including appraisal reviews, acting as a panel member for recruitment and selection and undertaking the initial stages of Trust HR policies, including grievance, conduct and capability.
The post holder will have an expert scientific background capable of establishing the best technical solutions with their senior scientific team and providing guidance and advice to clinicians and other senior managers.
