Description:

JOB OVERVIEW:

Manages, plans, organizes and evaluates the staff and activities of Central Sterile services within hospital. Selects, develops, manages and evaluates direct reports. Monitors and documents staff competency levels. Develops staffing schedule to accommodate hospital services, physicians and patient needs. Communicates with department Supervisors and staff to ensure instrument availability and smooth operation of department. Communicates with Perioperative Management to implement efficient work flow based on daily perioperative needs/schedules. Participates in planning for future needs of various staff shifts including staffing, program development, intradepartmental relationships and instrument/equipment inventory needs. Ensures daily compliance and consistent application of sterilization principles, standards and techniques daily. Monitors and ensures maintenance of inventory levels. Prepares reports related to department operations and metrics. Utilizes the SPM tracking system to generate and monitor daily reports and compliance. Tracks budgets and spending for instrumentation/equipment. Maintains the integrity of departmental records.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • CRCST- Certified Registered Central Service Technician thru IAHCSMM or CBSPD required CIS- Certified Instrument Specialist required within 1 year
  • CHL- Certified Healthcare Leader required within 1 year
  • Work related experience in an acute care Central Service and/or Perioperative Services environment. Ability to develop and implement training programs and the ability to teach. Capable of mature and independent judgment.

Preferred:

  • Experience with SPM software preferred
  • Surgical Technologist preferred

SCHEDULING REQUIREMENTS

  • 40 hours/week
  • Full Time

Responsibilities:

  • Ensures the appropriate continued flow of equipment and instrumentation through SPD.
  • Adequately plans, requisitions, stores and consults with the Operating Room Service Leaders and nursing personnel.
  • Coordinates SPD activities with nursing staff and service leaders and develops timely, in- depth problem resolutions.
  • Cooperates and consults with the Materials Manager to maintain equipment and supplies and in the evaluation of these items.
  • Provides input in interviews of new applicants for department positions. Maintains quality processes on all shifts; provides training, performs annual Competency Assessments and assists with evaluations for department staff. Assists with Quality Improvement processes. Coordinates all SPD staff activities to consistently accomplish department goals.
  • Ensure the department is in compliance with all applicable policies, laws and regulations.
