Responsibilities:
ABOUT THE ROLE: CERAMICS TECHNICIAN
Activate Learning have an exciting opportunity for a Ceramics Technician to join our well-established Learning for Leisure team across our Woodley Hill House and Reading College campus. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing technical support for our well-equipped ceramics workshops to support our thriving ceramics provision.
Core duties will include:
- Ensuring the workshop is fully equipped and well-stocked in preparation for lessons
- Maintaining a clean and safe workshop environment in compliance with Health and Safety standards.
- Firing students’ work and performing basic kiln maintenance.
- Recycling clay and mixing glazes.
- Conducting COSHH and Risk Assessments (training can be provided).
This is a part-time, term-time only post, with weekly hours mutually agreed upon to suit both the department’s and the technician’s needs.
- Woodley Hill House - 14 hours per week
- Reading College - 8 hours per week
The campuses are close to each other (approx. 5 min drive) and you would be reimbursed for travel between sites.
WHAT DO YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THIS ROLE?
- Knowledge of the technical aspects of ceramics and an understanding of relevant Health and Safety standards.
- A flexible approach to your duties, coupled with excellent organisational and interpersonal skills.
