We are seeking a meticulous and detail-oriented Certification Engineer to join our dynamic team. The Certification Engineer will be responsible for ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and certification requirements, particularly in the aerospace industry. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in software development processes and experience working with certification standards such as DO-178C / DO-254, ISO 26262, and IEC 61508.
This highly visible role includes interacting with Software Engineers, Project Managers, and external auditors to achieve successful certification for CoreAVI software and hardware products.

DESIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

  • A minimum of 6 years in Avionics Software Engineering.
  • Solid understanding of software development processes and methodologies.
  • Familiarity with certification standards and regulations, particularly DO-178C for airborne software systems.
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Prior experience in a certification-related role in the aerospace industry is preferred but not required.
  • Proven leadership skills within a software development team.
  • Ability to rigorously review software code written in C.
  • Fluent in American English.
  • Having supported at least one external audit of a project they lead.

Responsibilities:

  • Compliance Oversight: Ensure that software development activities adhere to regulatory standards and certification requirements, particularly DO-178 for airborne software systems.
  • Documentation Management: Oversee the creation, maintenance, and organization of all necessary documentation required for certification, including software plans, requirements documents, design descriptions, and verification reports.
  • Process Verification: Verify that software development processes, including configuration management, quality assurance, verification, and validation, meet the requirements outlined in certification standards.
  • Risk Assessment: Conduct risk assessments to identify potential hazards and ensure appropriate mitigations are implemented in the software design and development process.
  • Collaboration with Stakeholders: Work closely with software developers, system engineers, quality assurance personnel, and certification authorities to address any issues or concerns related to software certification.
  • Auditing and Reviews: Conduct internal audits and reviews of software development artifacts to verify compliance with certification standards and identify any non-compliance or deviations that need to be addressed. Defend work products and compliance during external audits work with customers and auditors to address feedback.
  • Training and Guidance: Provide training and guidance to software developers and project teams on certification requirements, processes, and best practices.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify areas for process improvement and work with cross-functional teams to implement enhancements to software development processes to ensure compliance with certification standards.
