POSITION SUMMARY:

The Medical Scribe works closely with the physicians to ensure accurate and complete medical records for each patient. The Medical Scribe accompanies the physician into the patient examination room to accurately document the physician’s encounter with the patient and others present. The Medical Scribe transcribes diagnoses, symptoms, exam findings, follow-up instructions, and prescriptions as dictated by the physician. Additionally, the Medical Scribe enters patient orders, verifies entries of any procedures performed by the physician, and maintains correspondence between the physician, other departments, and/or patients.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration, biology, or related field preferred.
  • Prior experience as a medical scribe or similar role is preferred.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and electronic health records.
  • Excellent listening, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Flexibility in work schedule, including evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Basic computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office.
    Amount of Travel Required: Frequent Travel is required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Hearing - Adequate to perform job duties in person and over the telephone
  • Speaking must be able to communicate clearly to patients in person and over the telephone.
  • Vision Visual acuity adequate to perform job duties, including reading information from printed sources or computer screens.
  • Other Required occasional lifting and carrying items over 10 pounds unassisted. Requires frequent bending, reaching, and repetitive hand movements, standing, walking, squatting, and sitting, some lifting, pushing, and pulling exerted regularly throughout regular work shift.
  • Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) (gloves, face mask, eye shield, gown)
  • In office environment with controlled atmosphere. Possible exposure to staff or patients with communicable diseases and blood borne pathogens.

Responsibilities:

  • Accompany physician into the patient examination room to document accurately the physicians encounter with the patient and others present.
  • Transcribe all proper diagnoses, symptoms, and exam findings as well as follow-up instructions and prescriptions, as dictated by the physician.
  • Enter patient orders, including billing orders, laboratory tests, radiology tests, etc.
  • Verify entries of any procedures performed by the physician.
  • Maintain any correspondence (flags, phone notes, patient letters, prescription refill requests, etc.) between the physician, other departments, and/or patients and ensuring prompt responses.
  • Monitor the physicians schedule and communicate any necessary changes with the Senior Clinical Operations Manager.
  • Contact patients to relay information from physician, schedule/change appointments, or any other follow-up, as necessary.
  • Always maintain professional appearance and conduct.
  • Adhere to employer work practices.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with physicians, staff, and management.
  • Effectively cope with typical job stress.
  • Document work processes as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including coverage in other areas of the clinic if physician is out.
