How you make a difference:
The Certified Medication Technician is responsible for all aspects of medication administration within the scope of his/her certification and under the supervision and direction of a Registered Nurse.
Key Responsibilities:
- Administering prescribed medications and documenting them on the Medication Administration Record (MAR) while following safety principles, infection control techniques, and the six rights of medication administration.
- Adhering to Facility policies, Pharmacy Board regulations, and proper infection control techniques during medication administration, including the use of universal precautions.
- Participating in performance improvement activities related to medication administration, such as data collection and medication audits.
- Reporting adverse patient medication reactions to a supervisor immediately and reordering/replacing medications and supplies as needed.
- Maintaining patient confidentiality and rights, as well as adhering to HIPAA regulations and ensuring confidentiality of health system and department documents.
Qualifications & Requirements:
Education
- High School graduate or equivalent.
Experience
- 1 year of related experience in a medical environment preferred.
Licenses/Certifications
- Must be certified as a Medication Technician in the state within which services are provided and have current CPR Certification.
