How you make a difference:
The Certified Nursing Assistant performs basic and specialized nursing care functions under the supervision of licensed nurses. They adhere to local and regulatory policies and procedures to ensure proper patient care. The Nursing Assistant collaborates with other healthcare team members and correctional officers to plan and implement patient care activities in a correctional setting. After a general orientation to medical-surgical and psychiatric patient care areas, they may also float between units to ensure adequate nursing staff for patient care areas.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provides basic nursing care to patients under the direction of a licensed nurse, including assistance with ADLs, vital sign measurement, and accurate documentation of patient data.
- Maintains professional behavior and prioritizes work flow to ensure completion of all assigned duties, while adhering to policies and procedures and promoting patient safety and confidentiality.
- Collaborates with other members of the health care team, participates in staff meetings and training sessions, and notifies the licensed nurse of any patient concerns or issues.
- Demonstrates basic knowledge of nursing procedures and proficiently uses medical supplies and equipment, while also ensuring their proper storage and cleaning.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the supervising nurse, such as assisting with patient care in different units and participating in the orientation of new staff members.
Qualifications & Requirements:
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Completion of training course for Nursing Assistants.
Experience
- Work requires level of knowledge of basic patient care methods, procedures, and techniques.
- Ability to handle a variety of simple tasks that are routine in nature, while keeping work flowing in an orderly manner.
- Must have the ability to pass a background check and drug screen.
- Must be able to pass and maintain clearance for a Public Trust Position, if working with specific patients.
- Ability to express thoughts logically, in English, in both written and verbal form.
- Ability to use computers and the typical software such as Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and various database systems.
Licenses/Certifications
- Current certification in the state of practice is required.
