As a Development Underwriter, you will drive the evolution of our underwriting practices through strategic partnerships with key stakeholders. Working closely with Principal Underwriters and our dynamic underwriting team, your mission will be to safeguard, promote, and advance the underwriting craft. Your pivotal role will ensure that our underwriting processes and guidelines not only meet but exceed the strategic imperatives of growth, retention, and unparalleled customer satisfaction.

Your Story

RLA has adopted agile ways of working, providing a flexible environment for individuals to make a significant contribution to our success through the application of their skill and experience. To thrive in this environment ideally a candidate has the following attributes:

  • As a senior member of the Underwriting Team, you will both demonstrate strong underwriting craft to assess proposals and manage risk within agree authority structure, quality requirements and service standards
  • Engage proactively with the Marketing and Partnerships Chapter to develop and lead relationships with key advisors and distribution partners to drive retention and growth of key products
  • Liaise with cross-functional teams to develop end to end process improvement including Pricing/Actuarial, Operations and Claims
  • Bring industry best standards to resolution Life to drive forward underwriting craft including reinsurance relationships and industry best practice
  • Lead technical performance related issues through underwriting craft evolution including process enhancement, guideline reviews and underwriting methodology changes
  • Utilise data across the underwriting value chain to investigate, identify trends and drive improvement in underwriting outcomes and portfolio sustainability
  • Represent the underwriting craft at Claims Round Tables and driving retrospective review of claims
  • Complete audit processes for technical underwriting capability development and ongoing team performance
  • Execute underwriting case management including telephony underwriting, risk assessments and determine customer outcomes in line with guidelines

Experience

  • Senior Underwriter with extensive experience and recognition as an expert within subject area of the chapter
  • Experience in developing underwriting capability and transformation
  • Competitor knowledge in retail and group insurance Life Insurance underwriting
  • Knowledge of product value chains
  • Proactive relationships with industry working groups and associations to drive outside in thinking
