Description:

  • One-year Fixed Term, Monday to Friday covering an internal secondment.
  • Clinical leadership role for an experienced registered nurse in Mental Health
  • Must either hold or have commenced the post graduate pathway with the focus on nursing.
  • Registered with the Nursing Council of New Zealand with current APC and must have a mental health scope of practice.
  • Excellent communication and time management skills
  • Adherence to guidelines of Cultural Safety and the Treaty of Waitangi
    Mō te tūnga | About the role
    This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced registered nurse to cover a fixed-term secondment opportunity.
    Wāhi Oranga (formerly known as the Seagar Clinic) is an inpatient rehabilitation unit which offers a recovery-based programme that enables people with mental health issues to live fulfilling lives in the community.
    Fixed term end date 25th August 2025.

The goals of this multi-disciplinary staffed service are:

  • Provision of a safe and supportive environment to provide extended assessment, treatment and rehabilitation following an admission to the adult acute service
  • Teaching skills to help support illness management and to support consumers to live the life they want to live
  • Support development of structure and meaningful routines
  • Support safe discharge into a community setting

NGĀ PŪKENGA ME NGĀ WHEAKO |SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Registered Nurse holding current New Zealand Nursing Council Annual Practising Certificate with appropriate conditions.
  • Experience working within an inpatient mental health setting.
  • Minimum of 3 years of leadership experience including experience in recruitment of staff.
  • A positive, solution focused mindset and experience in supporting change processes.
  • Experience training and supporting the development of staff (including the Kaiāwhina workforce)
  • Exceptional communication and relationship building skills across all disciplines and a variety of teams (i.e. community teams / other impatient units)
  • Good knowledge and support for the integration of Tikanga Maori within an inpatient setting.
  • An understanding of the Adult Inpatient Service, the way it integrates with other units and the pressures it currently faces.

  • Supporting the opening of Building 8b by working closely alongside other key leadership positions. This will include recruitment of staff (nursing, allied health and Kaiāwhina workforces), development of relevant policies and procedures and implementing the identified Model of care.
