Description:

Roehampton Gate School are recruiting for a Cook to join their Catering Team! We are looking for passionate people, who can promote healthy eating and provide varied meals that meet the required care standards and contribute to the wellbeing of our Children and Young People. In this role, you will be responsible for the cooking within the home as well as the menu planning, shopping and adhering to set budgets within the home to deliver healthy, varied and nutritious diets for young people and the staff within the home. In addition, be responsible for the ensuring that the kitchen and associated areas are kept to a high standard of hygiene, including food and equipment storage.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensures the effective and efficient planning and delivery of all aspects of food preparation and cooking, taking account of dietary and nutritional requirements within the school for our students and staff.
  • Actively involved in the preparation, cooking and serving of food and beverages as well as supervising the work of catering support staff and ensuring operational standards comply with the company’s ‘Assured Safe Catering policies’ and guidelines and statutory regulations.
  • Ensures that stock ordering and rotation is organized in an efficient and cost-effective manner.
  • Ensure the kitchen environment and facilities are continuously cleaned and maintained in line with all Health & Safety requirement, Including the dining room facilities.Maintain daily, weekly, and monthly records relating to food handling and safety requirements, detailed cleaning schedules and statutory temperature checks.

    A Level 3 qualification or equivalent is an essential requirement, as well as previous experience preparing and cooking meals gained within a professional kitchen environment along with the following characteristics:
    Communication Communicating with our young people is vital to understand their needs. Good teamwork and communication plays a key part in ensuring important information is relayed to other staff.
    Organisation You will need to be confident and organised in updating menus, dietary requirements and reporting information that will be relevant to the care of our young people.
    Attentive No young person is the same so being attentive to understand them and identify areas where we can support is important.
