Chemical Warehouse Operator
The Role:
We are looking for our next Chemical Warehouse Operator to join our Utilities Team. Under the direction of the Utilities Supervisor, this position receives and stores the chemical products and the material transfer following the load / unload process. The role also requires shipping / receiving capability and regular interaction with bulk chemical unload / vendor supplier - truck drivers. Helps with the maintenance of the warehouse.
This position is located in Portage la Prairie, MB

What You’ll Do:

  • Participate in inventory validation and audit as well as quality control activities and relevant updates to the WMS.
  • Operate all material handling & packaging equipment safely and efficiently as required.
  • Maintains equipment safety check logs and maintenance log book(s), as well as basic PMs as required.
  • Conducts routine tours and inspections of warehouse, inbound/outbound loading areas following HSE, security and quality requirements.
  • Participates in audits for required standards of inventory control, quality, ISO as required.
  • Performs incidental maintenance activities as required, and reports issues as necessary.
  • Monitors and controls usage of various process chemicals (e.g. hydrochloric acid, peracetic acid, caustic) and understands chemical usage rates and requirements for safe handling and storage / use.
  • Completes incident reporting procedures on HSE environmental spill reporting, and containment procedures.
  • Collaborates with maintenance, operations and contractors to complete equipment repairs and modifications or CIP / hygiene processes / duties.
  • Maintains a clean work environment and reports any deviation or issues immediately.
  • Communicates effectively, both written and verbal, with other employees, supervisors, managers, team leaders and contractors to foster positive interaction with others and good morale within and across all departments.
  • Assists with spare parts warehouse: Organization, shipping and deliveries of equipment, the shipping of equipment to be rebuilt with contractor and prepares spares ordered for maintenance operations.
  • Assist with the inventory of spare parts in the warehouse.

What You’ll Need:

Education:

  • Minimum of a High school diploma / GED
  • College diploma preferred in Distribution / Logistics, Warehousing or Supply Chain, Food processing, Chemical Mfg or Handling, etc.

Experience:

  • Minimum 5+ years working experience working with chemicals and in warehouse logistics, distribution, freight forwarding.
  • Preference given for experience in Food / Feed processing - cold storage and or beverage distribution / inventory control or chemical unloading.

Physical Demands

  • Able to repeatedly lift weights up to 55 lbs. and can ascend and descend stairs up to 4 stories.
  • Able to work in hot and humid environments in the summer, cold in the winter, and works outside in all seasons safely – adhering to HSE and PPE requirements / procedures and policy.
  • Occasionally will have to work outside for 60 minutes at a time, sometimes longer, in all seasons.
